1. The Family Genealogy Website has a great Civil War page, but that's not the only war that we've had family members to fight and die in.  I'm in the process of working on several new pages to honor those in our families who have served in various branches of the military (not necessarily in war time).  I'm well on the way to having the core pages for World War I and World War II completed - but I need your help to identify family members who were in the military.  If you have family members who served in the military - or if you know of family members who served in the military - let me know.  Email me using the email address at the bottom of this page or call me at 828-241-2233.  As always, thanks for your continued help in making the website better and better.

The World War I page includes information about Thomas Robinson Wilson (husband of Cordie Bland Loftin Wilson and son-in-law of William Alexander Loftin), Reid Davis Cranford and Spencer Rouse Cranford (nephews of Laura Rossie Cranford Loftin, wife of William Alexander Loftin).

The World War II page includes information about Coyte James Loftin, William Ray Loftin & Foy Max Loftin (sons of Arthur Lee Loftin), Paul Roosevelt Loftin (son of Charlie Roosevelt Loftin and grandson of Alonzo Lester Loftin), Larry Henry Loftin (son of Roy Henry Loftin and grandson of Alonzo Lester Loftin), and Ruel Franklin Herman (husband of Daisy Pearl Loftin Herman and son-in-law of Alonzo Lester Loftin).

2.  I've started working on pages for the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and the War on Terror.  These pages also need the names, photos, and military information of family members who have served in these wars.  Please call or email me.

The Korean War page includes information about Larry Henry Loftin and Wayne Morrow Loftin (sons of Roy Henry Loftin and grandsons of Alonzo Lester Loftin)

3.  The town of Catawba (in Catawba County, NC) installed a new historical sign on Main Street in 2012.  The sign recalls how the town was originally named "Catawba Station" and grew up around the Western North Carolina Railroad that ran through the town.

4.  James Loftin (son of Coyte James Loftin & Kathleen Naomi Morrow) shared Coyte & Kathleen's lineage and the information has been added to the Loftin Descendancy page.  James also shared WWII military photos with me of his dad, Coyte, as well as Coyte's brother, Foy Max Loftin.  The photos were added to the WWII page as well as Coyte and Foy's individual pages. James also shared an obituary for Foy's death.  Thanks to James - as well as his sister Judy - for their help with adding more photos and information to these various pages.

5.  Pam Loftin Williamson (daughter of William Ray Loftin & Martha Goldann Null) also had some great things to share this month.  She had photos of her dad (Ray) as well as his brother Coyte in their WWII military uniforms.  Pam also shared a military newsletter from her dad's WWII division that told a wonderful story of how Ray was responsible for capturing 79 Germans during WWII.  The information has been added to Ray and Coyte's individual pages as well as the WWII page.  Thanks so much Pam.

6.  I came across another photo of my wife's (Carolyn Janet Weeks Loftin's) mother (Viola Eason Weeks) with her sister Naomi Eason and Aunt Mae Griswold.  The photo has been added to Viola's page.

7.  Faye Huffman Huffman (Mrs. James "Jimmy" Henry Huffman) and Barbara Turbyfill Huffman (Mrs. Hal Davis Huffan) - both daughter-in-laws of the late John Henry Huffman and Callie Elma Loftin - shared their military photos of Jimmy and Hal.  The photo has been added to both Elma and Thelma's pages.  The military photos of Jimmy and Hal have been added to the Korean War page.

Barbara also came across this great photo of Callie Elma Loftin and her twin sister Willie Thelma Loftin when they were girls.  Twenty new photos have been added to Elma's page.

The World War II page includes information about Floyd Eugene Sigmon (son of Harry A. Sigmon & Bessie Jane Setzer and grandson of George Pinkney Setzer and Callie McGee; Floyd was the 1st Cousin-Once-Removed of Ida Lillian Setzer Loftin).

2.  I've started working on pages for the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the Gulf War and the War on Terror.  These pages also need the names, photos, and military information of family members who have served in these wars.  Please call or email me.

I seldom have much to add to this particular branch of the family - it's my mother's mother's side of the family - my grandmother, Beulah Vernesta Johnson.  This month, however, I've good news to report - I've been contacted by Kady Gantt who's husband's grandmother was a daughter of Beulah Vernesta Johnson's brother, (John) Henry Pinkney Johnson (b. 1889).  I've added the names of his children and some additional information to his page - including a photo of his grave marker.  I'm hoping to have more to report in the future.

2. William "Bill" S. Ellers Jr., son of William S. Ellers Sr. and Floye Hovis Loftin, passed away on Saturday, February 25, 2012, the result of a stroke.  Bill was 87 years old.  He is survived by his wife, Beuna Vida Vaught Ellers.  Bill and Beuna had one daughter, Linda, who had cerebral palsy and was wheelchair-bound most of her life.  William Sr. and Floye raised Bill Jr. in Harve De Grace, MD, just north of Baltimore, MD.  Graveside services were held in Harford Memorial Gardens, 333 South Parke Street, Aberdeen, MD 21001, on Tuesday, 28 Feb 2012, at 2:30 PM.  According to an email exchange with Chevy Straley, "Bill, Sr., changed their last name by adding a "s" to the end to spell "Ellers" instead of "Eller".  William "Bill" S. Ellers, Jr.,was a grandson of Alonzo Lester Loftin and Cornelia Estelle Lowrance.  Our condolences go out to Bill's widow, Beuna.

1. I recently realized that I had not added the footstone for Sadie Elizabeth Loftin Murray Lee to her webpage, so I took a short road-trip to Pisgah Methodist Church and snapped the photo.  I also realized that I had a "5 Generation" newspaper article honoring Sadie's 90th birthday that I had never added to her page.  I added a 1930 Census showing information about Sadie's second husband, Vernon.  Check out Sadie's page to see these and other updates. [Sadie was the daughter of Alonzo Lester Loftin and Ida Lillian Setzer - and the granddaughter of William Alexander Loftin & Laura Rossie Cranford and Patrick Sylvanus Setzer & Margaret Ann Elizabeth Witherspoon]
