With Mattie's death, James Henry (age 74) was left with five small children to raise on his own: Melvin (age 10), Thelma (age 9), Martin Luther (age 4), Robert (age 1) and Cleaford Earl (Newborn).  Unfortunately the bad news for the family didn't stop there.  James Henry Weeks died 29 Mar 1926.  Several of the children ended up in the Methodist Orphanage.

Cleaford Earl was raised by the Harrell family (Mattie Byryn's relatives).

In 2011 we heard from Ginny Gordon, who said, "My mother in law is Equitalbe "Quita" Harrell Gordon, who is 79 years old.  She was the daughter of Robert Henry Harrell and Maude Estelle Best.  The story is said, that because the Weeks family had so many kids, Cleaford Earl lived with the Harrells.  Maude told him he would always have a place to sleep and food for as long as they did.  With the recent death of Cleaford, Knave learned that he didn't speak about his early years much with his family until very close to the end.  Ironically I found him listed on very few family trees. Quita mentioned she met a few of the Weeks family but that is all.  Relationship wise,  James (Henry) Weeks' wife (Mattie Byrn Harrell) was Quitas aunt (actually Grand Aunt which most people call Great Aunt).

Ceaford Earl married Nell Porter on 05 Apr 1942 in Dillon, South Carolina.  They were both 17-year-old.  Their only child, Cleaford Earl Jr., was born 17 months later on 12 Oct 1943 in Goldsboro, Wayne County, NC.

OBITUARY

Goldsboro, NC – Cleaford Earl Weeks, Sr., 87, passed away on Sunday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family. Mr. Weeks was born in Sampson County on August 8, 1924 to the late Jim Henry Weeks and Mattie Harrell Weeks. He was married to the love of his life for 65 years, Nell Porter Weeks, and she preceded him in death on December 25, 2007. Mr. Weeks retired from Franklin Baking Company as the supervisor of transport. He later began working with Sasser Golf Carts where he enjoyed that opportunity for many years. Mr. Weeks was a man of incredible faith and was a long-time member of The First Pentecostal Holiness Church. He was an inspiration to many people, particularly his son and grandsons. He taught many life lessons but especially the importance of honesty, integrity, hard work, completing a job to the best of your ability and never giving up when times are tough. He will be missed by many, but we rejoice in knowing that he is reunited with his wife and grandson. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 1, 2011 from 1:30 – 3:00 p.m. at The First Pentecostal Holiness Church followed by a funeral service in the sanctuary at 3 p.m. with Rev. Bill Rose and his great-grandson, Bailey Weeks officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery. Mr. Weeks is survived by his son, Cleaford Earl Weeks, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Goldsboro; his grandchildren, Jim Weeks and wife Wendy, Frank Weeks and wife Jennifer, Rick Weeks and wife Beverly and Steve Weeks and wife Amy; and nine great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Edward Earl Weeks
