During an interview on 31 August 2010, Lee's daughter Lois told
Curtis Loftin & Peggy Brotherton that her family had lived in a
house on Pump Alley Rd where her father was a farmer. The
family grew cotton and corn as well as a vegetable garden.
When the Great Depression hit in 1929, Lee's family survived
because they had always grown what they needed on the family
farm. Lois said that Lee was also a "horse trader". |

When the great flue epidemic of 1918 (the Spanish Flu) hit the
county, daughter Lois Loftin Mundy stated that most of the
family ended up with the flu, too. She remembers being in
bed with her aunt Pearl Loftin - who both had the flu. An
estimated 50 million people (about 3% of the world's population)
died of the disease. Fortunately all of the Loftin family
survived. |
|
|
Lois remembers her mother waling around the house singing "I
Love to Tell the Story". |

Hymn |
|
I love to tell the story of unseen things
above,
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love.
I love to tell the story, because I know ’tis true;
It satisfies my longings as nothing else can do. |
|
I love to tell the story, ’twill be my
theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story of Jesus and His love. |
|
I love to tell the story; more wonderful it
seems
Than all the golden fancies of all our golden dreams.
I love to tell the story, it did so much for me;
And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee. |
|
I love to tell the story; ’tis pleasant to
repeat
What seems, each time I tell it, more wonderfully sweet.
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard
The message of salvation from God’s own holy Word. |
|
I love to tell the story, for those who
know it best
Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest.
And when, in scenes of glory, I sing the new, new song,
’Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long. |
