Obituary for Naomi "Kathlee" Morrow Loftin

(CLAREMONT) Naomi "Kathleen" Morrow Loftin, 96, passed away Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018, at her home with her family at her bedside. Born Nov. 13, 1921, in Catawba County, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Fred Morrow and Lillie Grace Deal Morrow.

Kathleen retired from Conover Glove after many years of service and was a lifelong member of Bethlehem United Methodist Church, where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women and served as a leader in the Methodist Youth Fellowship. She enjoyed participating in the Seniors Group, helping with the chicken & dumplings supper, and visiting shut-ins for many years. She also enjoyed visits from the GALS and Helping Hands from the church.

Kathleen was a loving daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She so much enjoyed the recent visits from family and friends for her recent birthday and over the Christmas season.

She and Coyte enjoyed traveling on bus tours with friends and family to almost every state, including Canada and Mexico. Kathleen enjoyed all kinds of crafts, including ceramics, crocheting, quilting, making pine needle baskets and painting. She especially loved sharing her talents and gifts with family members.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Coyte James Loftin; sisters, Mary Etta Gantt, Evelyn "Evie" Kirk; brothers, Daniel Phillip "Pete" Morrow and Boyd Deal Morrow; and a son-in-law, Stephen R. Sims Sr.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, James Loftin and wife, Jean of Claremont; daughters, Judy Sims of Maiden, Teresa Tharpe and husband, John of Conover; grandchildren, Mark Loftin and wife, Anita, Beth Shepler and husband, Deke, Amanda Jordan and husband, Joe, Stephen Sims Jr. and wife, Christie, Eric Sims, Kristin Lingle and husband, Kevin, Allison Tharpe and fiancé, Garrett Huffman, Angie Burwell and husband, Barry and Melinda Bumgarner; great-grandchildren, Madison Jordan, Jake Loftin, Mara Loftin, Brady Jordan, Brett Jordan, Lillie Sims, Ben Loftin, Owen Sims, Colby Shepler, Carson Shepler, Kayleigh Sims, Jack Lingle, Parker Shepler and Emma Sims; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, at Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Claremont, NC. The Rev. Dennis Marshall officiated and burial followed at St. Mark's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Claremont. Grandsons served as pallbearers. The family received friends from 2 to 2:45 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, at the church, prior to the service.

Kathleen's family would like to thank her caregivers who so lovingly took care of her, Kim James, Pearl Monaghan, Reta Walls, Mary Helton, Camri Bishop, Kathy Sigmon, Darnell Doub and Norma Wright.
