Cars, Cars, Cars

What is that strange love and fascination we have with cars?  Is it a rite of passage for men, a sign of financial affluence - or just an appreciation for the beauty of the design?

Regardless, everyone seems to always want their photo taken in from of someone's car!

The Ford Model T (colloquially known as the Tin Lizzie and the Flivver) was an automobile produced by Henry Ford from 1908 through 1927. The model T set 1908 as the historic year that the automobile came into popular usage. It is generally regarded as the first affordable automobile and the car which "put America on wheels".

I was recently visiting with Red & Peggy Loftin Brotherton.  When I showed him the above photo, he said, "I had a car like that at one time.  I bought it for $20.  I worked on it and got it running - eventually selling it for $600.  I thought I made a pretty good profit, but if I had it today (2007) it would be worth $50,000!"

and marriage - with their first car, a Pontiac Grand Prix

The Pontiac Grand Prix is an automobile produced by the Pontiac division of General Motors. First introduced as part of Pontiac's full-size model offering for the 1962 model year, the Grand Prix name has also been applied to cars in the personal luxury car market segment and the mid-size offering.

Curtis Loftin - September 2007
After 25 years of driving family-style cars, Curtis purchased this 1996 Mazda Miata in 2000

The Mazda MX-5, also known as Miata in North America and Roadster in Japan, is a sports car built by Mazda in Hiroshima, Japan, since 1989. Its introduction was a significant development in the motor car industry that revived the roadster segment of sports cars.
