Paul Roosevelt Loftin was the first child
born to
Charlie Roosevelt Loftin and Edna Jones. Paul was
born 05 Mar 1927 in Catawba County.
Paul had one sibling,
Elsie Louise Loftin, who was born a little
over a year and a half later on 02 Dec 1928.

Paul enlisted in the U.S. Army on 27 Jun 1945
in Fort Bragg, North Carolina. His enlistment was for the
duration of the war (World War II) plus six months. His
enlistment shows that he had 4 years of high school education.
On August 6, 1945, the U.S. dropped a nuclear weapon dubbed
Little Boy on Hiroshima, destroying the city. On August 9, we
dropped the second atomic bomb, dubbed Fat Man, on the port city
of Nagasaki.
The war ended on 25 Aug 1945 when the
Japanese surrendered. |

Paul was stationed at Camp Claiborne, Louisiana. Camp
Claiborne was a U.S. Army military camp during World War II
located in Rapides Parish in central Louisiana. The camp was
under the jurisdiction of the U.S. 8th Service Command, and
included 23,000 acres. From 1939 to 1946 over half a
million men went through Camp Claiborne. The camp was mainly
used for basic training and artillery practice. |

Paul married Mildred Allen on 23 April 1948. Mildred was
born 11 May 1931 in Catawba County, NC. They lived in a
house on the corner of E. Bandys Rd. and Mathis Chapel Church
Rd. in Catawba County. |

Paul and Mildred's marriage produced five children. |
