For some of you, this might be your first time to visit Our Family Genealogy Website. For other, you may have been here many times before. Regardless, I'd like to make a few recommendations of pages that you might find interesting. I continue try to keep the family apprised of deaths in the family, therefore I always welcome your emails or phone calls informing me when there has been a death (or a birth) in the family.

I personally began working on my family genealogy shortly after I retired from teaching in 2005. In 2007, I created the "Our Family Genealogy Website" website as a place to share the photos and information that I collected. The first page I created on this website was the Loftin Family Descendancy. I created it so that I could share the information with family members at the upcoming Loftin Family Reunion in May of 2007. Since then, the website has grown immensely. There are now over 700 individual pages that cover everything from family descendancies, to individual pages for various ancestors, to pages about the churches, schools and cities where our ancestors lived and worked. This data changes daily but I thought you might find it interesting.

1. I've recently had a problem with my genealogy website server and as a result every page, every photo, every census and every document has had to be re-uploaded. As you view the various pages on this website, if you see a missing photo or some other error, would you please contact me. I'll need to know (1) the name of the page and (2) what error you've found. Thanks for your help.

2. One of the pages I had fun creating in the early days of my genealogy research was the Family Homes page. I had discovered that several of the homes of my Uncles, Aunts and Grandparents were no longer standing and it seemed only natural that I should photograph the homes so that the memories could be kept and future generations could know where their relatives lived.

Do you know these Loftin family homes in Catawba County, NC?

1. I added the lineage of Oliver Cromwell Loftin (1861 - 1930) to the Loftin Descendancy page.

2. Arthur Wilburn Smith (1895-1973) was added to the World War 1 page. Arthur was the son of Lee Dobbins Smith and Jennie Candis Huss. He was the husband of Maude Grigg Loftin and the son-in-law of Oliver Cromwell Loftin and Isabelle "Belle" Jane Moore.

3. World War 2: Enoch Bidwell Loftin (1916-19810, Ivey Pinkney Loftin Sr. (1908-1985) and Marshal Alexander Loftin (1918-1980), sons of Franklin Cleveland Loftin (1883-1947) and grandsons of Oliver Cromwell Loftin, have been added to the WW2 page. Grady Roy Lee Loftin Sr. (1923-1979), son of Braxton Cromwell Loftin and grandson of Oliver Cromwell Loftin, has also been added to the WW2 page. Paul Jones Loftin, son of Julius Commodore Loftin, has been added to the WW2 page.

4. I got an email from Heather Loftin Holding, daughter of Alfred Wayne Loftin & Martha Joan Ikerd. Heather provided additional information about her grandfather Arthur Fred Loftin's lineage. That information has been added to the Loftin Descendancy page. I also updated the pages for Arthur Fred Loftin (b. 1923) Other Frederick Loftin (b. 1886) and Washington Lafayette Loftin (b. 1859). Heather also provided 5 photos that I added to the Arthur Fred Loftin page. Thanks, Heather.

5. L.D. Loftin (1916 - 1999) served in the US Navy during World War 2. He was the son of Other Frederick Loftin & Nannie Elizabeth Lowrance. The limited information I could find on L.D. has been added to the WW2 page.

6. I updated the page for Julius Commodore Loftin (b. 1881) with additional information about his children. I contacted an Ancestry.com DNA match, Stephanie Cox Taylor, and as a result of our email exchange was able to add additional information to the Loftin Descendancy through her Great-Great-Grandfather Julius Commodore Loftin.

7. I added additional information to the page for Oliver Cromwell Loftin (b. 1861), brother of William Alexander Loftin (b. 1851).

8. I added some additional information and updated the pages for Reuben Fisher (b. Abt. 1799), William Fisher (b. Abt. 1770) and Stephen Fisher (b. Abt. 1730). James Franklin Loftin (b. Abt. 1827) married Frances "Frankie" Elizabeth Fisher, daughter of Reuben Fisher.

FAMILY: Setzer
(Aderholdt, Barringer, Bovey, Bushart, Deal, Heavner, Herman, Ikert, Miller, Motz, Pettigrew, Rankin, Witherspoon)

1. I created a new page for Hoyle "Hile" Brown Witherspoon (1814 - 1863), the son of Thomas Wesley Witherspoon and Margaret Peggy Rankin. Hoyle was the brother of my ancestor Miles Rankin Witherspoon (1817 - 1892). There's a good photo of Hoyle and his wife Mary Margaret Carpenter. Hoyle and Mary Margaret's son Thomas Franklin Theodore Witherspoon has been added to the Civil War page.

2. I updated the Pettigrew Descendancy page. I created a new page for James "The Immigrant" Pettigrew II (b. 1713, IRELAND). James II's daughter Martha Moore Pettigrew married John Witherspoon II (b. 1926, Glascow, SCOTLAND).

3. I created a new page for David Witherspoon (1789 - 1873). David was the son of Thomas Wesley Witherspoon, Sr. (1748-1790) and Sarah "Sallie" Howard (1761-1790). There is a great photo of David on this page as well as a photo of his daughter Flora. I also updated the Witherspoon Family Descendancy with David Witherspoon's lineage.

4. I created a new page for John Paul Barringer (b. 1721), the son of  Wilhelm Barringer/Behringer and Mary Paulina Dekker.

FAMILY: Goble
(Babst/Bobst, Douglas, Faber, Fulbright, Hedrick, Hefner, Meinhert, Miller, Pabst/Bobst, Robinson)

1. I've completed major updates to the page for David James Fulbright (b. 1855) the illegitimate son of Mahala Catherine Miller (when she was 24 years old and still single). Eventually Mahala would marry J. Walter/Walton Douglas and their marriage would produce a daughter, Frances Elizabeth "Fannie" Douglas, who married Jacob Hedrick Goble. Anyway, one of the things that was added to page for David  James Fulbright was a new photo of him.

2. A photo of Miles Jeremiah Hedrick has been added to the Civil War page.

FAMILY: Johnson
(Corzine, Fink, Hamilton, Kaiser, Leslie, Lewis, Moore, Sherrill, Upright, Wilkinson)

1. I added a great new photo to the page for John Henry Pinkney Johnson III (b.1889) to brother of my maternal grandmother, Beulah Vernesta "Nessie" Johnson Goble.

2. I created a new page for David Sherrill  (1764 - 1827), husband of Rachel Hamilton (1774 - 1858). There are some really great letters written in the 1800s on Rachel's page. Be sure to check them out, too. I've also created a new page for David's father, Uriah Sherrill (1728 - 1779), who was the son of Adam Sherrill (1697 - 1772).

FAMILY: Loftin
(Beatty, Corzine, Cranford, Fisher, Givens, Harwell, Kaiser, Lanier, Lomax, McCorkle, Rudisill, Sherrill, Upright, Washington, Work)

1. As I worked to update the page for Thomas Loftin (b. 1798) this month, I came across some new information pertaining to his family and the Civil War. I knew that my GG-Grandfather James Franklin Loftin died during the Civil War at the age of 37, as well as his half-brothers William A. Loftin and William Pinkney Loftin. I did not know that his half-brother David M. Loftin (who was living in Caldwell County, NC) and his brother-in-law John Watts (husband of Sally Loftin) had also perished during this war. What heartache this family endured.

2. I updated the page for Frederick Thompson Loftin (b. 1889) with additional photos and information. Fred was the son of Jacob Philo Loftin (b. 1854) and the grandson of Langdon Loftin (b. 1825). Fred's son Leonard Thompson Loftin was added to the World War II page. I also updated the Jacob Philo Loftin (b. 1854) page with additional information.

(Left to Right) Fred Loftin; Fred & Edith Loftin and family; Fred Loftin; LaDonna Loftin Davison

3. I did some minor updates to the Isabella McCorkle Beatty (b. 1771) page. Isabella was the maternal grandmother of James Franklin Loftin (b. 1827).

4. I updated the Family Surnames page for the LOFTIN family.

5. I created a new page for Elizabeth "Betsy" Salina Loftin (1828 - 1862). Betsy was the daughter of Thomas Loftin (b. 1798) and Sarah "Sally" Lavina Beatty and the sister of James Franklin Loftin (b. 1827). I also created a new page for Thomas and Lavina Loftin's daughter Isabella Caroline Loftin (1823 - 1880). I also updated the page for James Franklin Loftin (b. 1827) with more information about his children.

6. I updated the page for Adam Sherrill (b. 1731).

7. I created a new page for Manley Wilson Cranford, Jr. (b. 1860). I update the Cranford Descendancy page with information about the children of Manley Wilson Cranford, Jr. I also update the Manley Wilson Cranford, Sr., page.

Manley Wilson Cranford, Jr. Family

8. I've had a copy of a photo in my genealogy collection for a LONG time. The original was a tin-type and was given to me by Peggy Loftin Brotherton. It used to belong to Grand Aunt Cordie Loftin Wilson and had been given to Peggy along with a photo of Manley Wilson Cranford Jr and Laura Rossie Cranford Loftin. The photo was of Loum Shelton - or so I thought. I knew Manley Jr and Laura had a sister named Nancy Anna Cranford b. Abt. 1859 but I didn't know much else about her. Just this month I discovered that she was married to Elihu Lockman Shelton (b. 1855) and suddenly it hit me that the photo was of Loch/Lock Shelton. So, I created a new page for Elihu Lockman Shelton  where I've added the photo.

9. DEATH IN THE FAMILY

Spencer Rouse Cranford, Jr.

(Charlotte) - Spencer Rouse Cranford, Jr., 87, passed away Monday, 17 Jul 2017. "Speedy", as he was known to all, was born 20 May 1930 and grew up in Charlotte, graduated from Central High School, Class of 1948, and graduated from Brevard College. While at Brevard, Speedy met his future bride, Dale Brown. He joined the Air Force in 1951 and was assigned to Keesler AFB in Biloxi. While there, Speedy and Dale were married and had their first child, Reid. After his enlistment, they returned to Charlotte and had their second child, Rick, in 1955.

Speedy and Dale spent 65 wonderful years together and more than anything cherished their family and friends.

He loved sitting on the porch, enjoying the lake view, but he especially enjoyed playing tennis with his buddies at Olde Providence Racquet Club. At two different times, his team reached #1 ranking in the State of North Carolina in doubles in his age group.

He was a Realtor for 42 years, giving much time to the Charlotte Associate of Realtors, including serving as Vice President. He achieved the status of Realtor Emeritus with Coldwell Banker United Realtors.

Speedy was a long-time member of Myers Park Presbyterian Church and Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church, serving as a deacon and elder.

Survivors include his wife, Dale; sons, Reid and wife (Cindy Rockette) and Rick and wife (Connie Cranford); grandchildren, Timothy Cranford, John Paul Sineath and Sarah Cranford; three great grandchildren; sister Elizabeth Johnson; honorary son, John Sineath and wife (Debbie); niece, Carol Johnston and nephew Scott Johnson.

Spencer/Speedy was the son of Spencer Rouse Cranford, Sr. (1893-1960) and Thelma May Collins (1904-1992). He was the Great-Grandson of Manley Wilson Cranford, Sr. and Mary Martha Lomas - Grand-Nephew of Laura Rossie Cranford Loftin - 1st Cousin Once Removed of William Alexander Loftin - 2nd Cousin of Alonzo Lester Loftin.

FAMILY: Goble
(Babst/Bobst, Douglas, Faber, Fulbright, Hefner, Meinhert, Miller, Pabst/Bobst, Robinson)

1. I updated the Family Surnames page for the GOBLE family.

2. I updated the page for Johannes Miller (b. 1726). I added a photo of the grave marker of his mother-in-law Sarah Meinhert Faber to his page, too. Johannes was the husband of Sarah's daughter, Maria/Mary Madgalena Faber Miller.

3. Jacob Hedrick Goble (1860 - 1929) was the illegitimate son of Harriett Lucinda Goble and Jacob B. Hedrick. I've created a new Hedrick Decendancy page for the Hedrick family. While researching the Hedrick family, I discovered that 5 of John (1755 - 1820) and Louiza Lovi Hedrick's grandsons served in the Civil War. Alfred M. Hedrick, Daniel Hedrick, Levi H. Hedrick and Miles Hedrick served the Confederacy while George Edmund Hedrick (who lived in Indiana at the time) served the Union. Only Alfred and Daniel survived the war. For more information, check out the Hedrick family on the Civil War Page.

FAMILY: Johnson
(Corzine, Fink, Hamilton, Kaiser, Leslie, Lewis, Moore, Sherrill, Upright, Wilkinson)

1. I updated the Family Surnames page for the JOHNSON family. I created a new page for David Leander Sherrill (b. 1825). David was the son of Alfred M. Sherrill (b. 1798) and Eliza Moore. David was a brother to Levina C. Sherrill Johnson (Grandmother of Beulah Vernesta Johnson Goble). I added David Leander Sherrill's children to the Sherrill Family Descendancy.

2. I updated the page for Richard Lewis (b. 1721) who was married to Hannah Loftin.

DNA & MISCELLANEOUS

1. I continue to add individuals to the various US Military pages. On the World War II page, I've recently added photos and information about  Sgt. John Newell Aderholt (1918-1981) who was a 2nd Cousin to Ida Lillian Setzer Loftin; Sgt. Charles Manson "Pete" Beatty (1918-2002) who was a 3rd Cousin to Alonzo Lester Loftin; and Ora Taptola Howard Beatty, PHM3 (1919-2004) who was the wife of Charles Manson "Pete" Beatty.

FAMILY: Loftin
(Beatty, Corzine, Cranford, Fisher, Givens, Harwell, Kaiser, Lanier, Lomax, McCorkle, Rudisill, Sherrill, Upright, Washington, Work)

1. Last month was MASSIVE! I don't know when the last time was that I got so much done. I get lots and lots of emails and it takes me time to go through them to see if there is pertinent information. I also continue to update my two DNA pages. I tried to get as much accomplished this month, too.

2. After the death of Daisy Lemyre Sigmon in 2008, I was given a copy of her extensive research into the descendants of Patrick Sylvanus Setzer (b. 11 May 1843 - d. 20 Apr 1923) and Margaret Ann Elizabeth Witherspoon (b. 02 Nov 1845 - d. 06 Dec 1932). Since many of us descend through Ida Lillian Setzer and Alonzo Lester Loftin, there was a large section of information for those descendants. It's actually the most complete listing I've seen, but it's only current up until Daisy's death in 2008. Any births, deaths and marriages after that are not included in her (or my) data. I used her information to update the Alonzo Lester Loftin Descendancy page. If your family information is missing, incomplete or incorrect, please email me. I'd love to hear from you.

3. I added information and some photos of Bidwell Loftin to the World War 1 page. Bidwell was the son of Oliver Cromwell Loftin, nephew of William Alexander Loftin, grandson of James Franklin Loftin and 1st Cousin to Alonzo Lester Loftin. He was killed in action on 10 Aug 1918 in Belgium. I've added lots more information to the page for Oliver Cromwell Loftin.

4. I did a major upgrade to the page for Major Francis Marion McCorkle Sr., b. 1742, a Revolutionary War Patriot ancestor who served his country well. There's lots of new information. I also updated the Revolutionary War page.

5. I've been working on the page for Alexander Work, b. Abt. 1720, who was the father of Sarah Work (wife of Major Francis Marion McCorkle Sr.). I've found his Will and some additional information about his children that I've added to his page. There were actually two copies of his Will with the same date. It appears that whoever wrote the original Will decided to "rewrite" it but in the process of doing so, some of the wording was changed and Alexander's daughter Ann was accidentally left out. I hope she got her "ten" shillings.

6. I've updated the page for Thomas Beatty, b. Abt. 1731, with additional information about his children. This Thomas Beatty was a Great-Grandfather to James Franklin Loftin.

FAMILY: Setzer
(Aderholdt, Barringer, Bovey, Bushart, Deal, Heavner, Herman, Ikert, Miller, Motz, Rankin, Witherspoon)

1. I got an email from Nicky Setzer who shared with me his Setzer Lineage from George Eddy Setzer (b. 1888). That lineage has been added to the Setzer Family Descendancy page.  Thanks Nicky for sharing.

2. Sometime after the death of Daisy Lemyre Sigmon (1924-2008), her family was kind enough to see that I got a copy of our Setzer Descendancy through Patrick Sylvanus Setzer (b. 11 May 1843 - d. 20 Apr 1923) and Margaret Ann Elizabeth Witherspoon (b. 02 Nov 1845 - d. 06 Dec 1932). She worked many years making phone calls to our parents and grandparents collecting information about our births, deaths, marriages and children. It has taken me a while to finally get around to it, but I've added that information to our Setzer Descendancy page. Thank you, Daisy. There have, however, been births, deaths, marriages and children since Daisy passed away in 2008, so if your family information is incomplete, just email me with the information and I'll be glad to add it. [My email address is at the bottom of this page.] I created a new page to thank and honor Daisy Lemyre Sigmon but unfortunately my photos and information are limited. If you have photos of Daisy or stories to share, please contact me.

3. I've update the page for Frederick William Aderhold, b. 1748, with some additional information. I've matched numerous Aderhold/t cousins in the Ancestry.com Autosomal DNA Test.

4. I updated the page for Conrod Bovey, AKA Conrad Povey.

5. I've updated the page for William Deal, b. 1774, and Mary Herman Deal, with Census Records and new information.

6. I updated the Aderholt Descendancy page with the children of Emanuel Marcus Aderholt (1820-1907). I also created a new page for Emanuel Marcus Aderholt (1820-1907) as well as pages for some of his children including: Mary Martha "Mattie" Aderholt (b. 1863), Jonas Christopher Aderholt (b. 1858), Lee E. Aderholt (b. 1870) and for Martin Beverly Aderholt (b. 1876).

There are some great photos and really interesting stories on these pages. (Emanuel Marcus Aderholt was a brother to Ida Lillian Setzer Loftin's grandmother Sarah Elizabeth Aderholdt Witherspoon. He would have been Ida's Grand Uncle.)

A few of the Aderholt family photos on the various pages

FAMILY: Goble
(Babst/Bobst, Douglas, Faber, Fulbright, Hefner, Meinhert, Miller, Pabst/Bobst, Robinson)

1. I received an email from Diane Goble from York, SC. Like many of us, she descends from Corban Goble Sr. (b. 1761) and Elizabeth Robinson. Diane's line comes through Corban's son Absalom Goble (b. 1795) and I come through Corban's youngest son Lewis Carlan Goble (b. 1813). I've created a new page for her father, James Linden Goble (1895 - 1964), and I've added Diane's lineage to the Goble Family Descendancy page. Diane's father, James Linden Goble, served in WW1 and I have added his information to the WW1 in the section for GOBLES. I added what limited information I could find about his son William Coleman Goble to the WW2 page. Thanks Diane.

2. I've updated the Corban Goble (b. 1761) page with new information.

FAMILY: Johnson
(Corzine, Fink, Hamilton, Kaiser, Leslie, Lewis, Moore, Sherrill, Upright, Wilkinson)

1. I updated the Civil War page with information and a gravestone photo for Miles R. Hamilton, the son of Drury Hamilton (1802 - 1889). Miles was born in 1834 and served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. He was wounded at the Battle of Gettysburg on 01 Jul 1863 and died 02 Jul 1863. Marianna Hamilton shared the gravestone photo with me on 09 Nov 2016 - the same exact day I took Mom to Cardinal Nursing Home. Needless to say, the email sat in my "to do later" box until today (June 1st). Thanks Marianna for sharing. Sorry it took me so long to find it and use it. I also updated the page on Drury Hamilton (1802 - 1889) with a few more graphics and other information.

2. I updated the page for James Q Leslie/Lasley, b. 1807 and his wife, Sarah Caroline Fink, b. 1831. I also update the page for their daughter, Nancy Caroline Leslie.

DNA & MISCELLANEOUS

1. There are LOTS of twins in my family - so much so that I decided to create a page just to start collecting that data. My maternal grandmother, Buelah Vernesta Johnson Goble, had a set of twins named Estelene Goble & Elgevia Goble. My paternal grandmother, Ida Lillian Setzer Loftin, was herself a twin and gave birth to two sets of twins named Callie Elma Loftin & Willie Thelma Loftin and Daisy Pearl Loftin & "Infant Son" Loftin. Be sure to check out the TWINS page. I'll continually be updating it with new data. If you're aware of a set of twins in the family that I don't have listed, please email me and let me know.

2. I updated the History of Catawba County page with new information.

FAMILY: Loftin
(Beatty, Corzine, Cranford, Fisher, Givens, Harwell, Kaiser, Lanier, Lomax, McCorkle, Rudisill, Sherrill, Upright, Washington, Work)

1. As you probably know if you've spent much time on Our Family Genealogy website, there is a Loftin Descendancy page that I've been adding information to ever since 2007 when I first started this website. What you may not know is that there are smaller descendancy pages with just certain branches of Loftins. For example, there is an Alonzo Lester Loftin 1876 Descendancy page that lists only names of people that descend through Alonzo Lester Loftin (b. 1876). If your family descends through Alonzo, take a look at this page and if you discover that you or your family are not included, email me with the information and I'll gladly add it. I'm continually working on the various pages of the website and it's easy to overlook smaller updates that I need to do. There are descendany pages that gradually extend backward in time through our Loftin lineage including the William Alexander Loftin 1851 Descendancy, the James Franklin Loftin 1827 Descendancy, the Thomas Loftin 1798 Descendancy, and the James Loftin 1768 Descendancy - as well as one for my dad and those of us who descend through his lineage, the Sam William Loftin 1918 Descendany. If you find yourself looking for one of these pages and can't seem to find it, just remember they are all listed in our Table of Contents the website that is called "Where to Find 'Em" under the letter "L" for Loftin. And even though I don't descend through him, there is a page for Eldridge Edward Loftin (b. 1782). Eldridge was the brother of James Loftin (b. 1768) and there many many Loftins who descend through him. The page is called the Eldridge Loftin 1782 Descendany. There is also a Loftin Descendancy that only has the names of family members who were born or married "Loftins". I'll also add links to these various descendany pages on the Homepage. I'm in the process of continually updating these pages so if you see a mistake or you'll like to be added, just contact me.

2. I have found the 1800, 1810, 1820 and 1830 Census for James Loftin (b. 1768). Copies of each of these have been added to James' page. Each of these Census show that James had slaves. Upon his death, they were left to his wife Susannah and then to their children after her death. Sons Thomas and Henderson were the only children who did not inherit or ever own slaves.

3. I was recently contacted by D. Kirk Beatty who shared his Beatty lineage with me. It has been added to the Beatty Descendancy Page. Thanks Kirk.

4.  I was recently contacted by Clay Blankenship who shared his McCorkle lineage from Thomas Jefferson McCorkle (b. 1809) who lived in Colbert County, Alabama. That information has been added to the McCorkle Family Descendancy. Thanks Clay. I also updated the William Joel McCorkle (b. 1782) page and acknowledged Lewis Washington McCorkle's service in the American Civil War on our Civil War page. I added a new page for Lewis Washington McCorkle (1838 - 1924) as a result of additonal information that Clay shared.

5. I've added the Last Will and Testament of Sampson Lanier, Sr, (b.1682), to his page. I've updated all of the Lanier pages: Martha Lanier (1740), Sampson Lanier Jr (1712), Sampson Lanier Sr (1682), John Lanier Jr (1655), John Lanier Sr (1631), Clement Lanier (1590), Nicholas Lanier (1542) as well as the Lanier Decendancy page. The Loftin's connect to the Laniers when John Loftin (1740) married Martha Lanier (1740). All of the Catawba County, NC, Loftins came through John & Martha. I've added new information, photo, documents, etc. to the various Lanier pages. I created a NEW page for Elizabeth Washington Lanier (b.1689).

6. I've started working on pages for the Washington Family - starting with a brand NEW page for Elizabeth Washington (b. 1689), wife of Sampson Lanier Sr. (b. 1682)

7. As you probably know, it's almost time for the Loftin Family Reunion. The Loftin Family Reunion is held on the third Sunday in May each year for the descendants of William Alexander Loftin and Laura Rossie Cranford Loftin (or anyone else who wants to come). For many years the reunion was held at the Balls Creek Campground in Catawba County, NC. As time passed it moved to Center Methodist Church and then to Catawba Methodist Church. This year due to a scheduling conflict, the reunion will be held at First Methodist Church in downtown Newton, NC. Everyone is asked to bring a covered dish to share for the meal which will begin at 1:00 p.m. Afterwards, there will opportunities to catch up with other family members you've not seen in a while, share stories and photos, and much more. Make plans to join us.

2014 Loftin Family Reunion

8. I've updated the Stories of Faith page. Thus far, I have stories by myself/Curtis Loftin concerning my parents (1) Sam William Loftin and Willie Goble Loftin, and (2) Jeannie Stewart Cook concerning her brother (3) Michael Dale Lafone, her mother (4) Norma Lynn Cook Stewart and her grandmother (5) Glennie Franes Loftin Cook. For several years now, Paul Allen Loftin has written a weekly email entitled "Sunday's Monday" where he shares the things that God has been speaking to his heart. I've also added several of those to the Stories of Faith page. I'd love to add more. If you have something to share, just email me.

9. I've updated the Civil War page with additional information and documents including Company Musters for Langdon Loftin and Marcus Lafayette Loftin. Thanks to Kevin Loftin for sharing copies of these Civil War Musters.

10. I've updated the pages for John Loftin (b.1740) and Eldridge Edward Loftin (b.1782) with additional information and documents. Be sure to check them out.

11. I've added photos from the Loftin Family Reunion. I wasn't able to be there this year, but Paul Allen Loftin took photos and shared them with me. Thanks Paul for the photos. Since this page has become pretty photo heavy, I've created a new page for the Loftin Family Reunion 2018 & Beyond.

FAMILY: Setzer
(Aderholdt, Barringer, Bovey, Bushart, Deal, Heavner, Herman, Ikert, Miller, Motz, Rankin, Witherspoon)

1. I contacted Jane Miller Thompson who was a DNA match with me at Ancestry.com/DNA. Jane and I are 2nd Cousins, Once Removed. (That means that Jane's mother and I are 2nd cousins and since Jane drops to the next generation, she is my 2nd Cousin, Once Removed.) Jane shared two photos of her grandmother Sallie Ann Setzer who married Ransom Edgar Little. Sallie was a sister to my grandmother Ida Lillian Setzer Loftin. Sallie and Ida were two of the daughters of Patrick Sylvanus Setzer and Margaret Ann Elizabeth Witherspoon.

FAMILY: Goble
(Babst/Bobst, Douglas, Faber, Fulbright, Hefner, Meinhert, Miller, Pabst/Bobst, Robinson)

1. I created a new page for John H. Hedrick (b. 1755) and his wife Louiza Lovi. John and Louiza's son Jacob B. Hedrick was the father of an illegitimate son with Harriette Lucinda Goble. The child was name Jacob Hedrick Goble and was born on 22 Oct 1860. Jacob Hedrick Goble was the father of Martin Luther Goble as well as many of the other Gobles in Catawba and Iredell Counties, NC. I'm just now beginning to move into working with this branch of the family. Be sure to check out of the these pages.

FAMILY: Johnson
(Corzine, Fink, Hamilton, Kaiser, Leslie, Lewis, Moore, Sherrill, Upright, Wilkinson)

1. I updated the page on Pinkney C. Johnson - the grandfather of Beulah Vernesta Johnston Goble with new documents and information.

DNA & MISCELLANEOUS

1. The DNA test I did with Ancestry.com in January 2016 has since then connected me with 1,145 individuals that are 4th cousins or closer. It's a massive job just to go through all the data that is provided to see what is most relevant. Thus far I've identified 50+ individuals with the most pertinent data. This data shows not just a connection to genealogy lineages on paper, but also through DNA. I'll share the results of my research when I get it completed. I'm still working on this part of the DNA Testing 2 page.

2. I've updated my two DNA Pages: DNA Testing 1 (Male Y-Chromosome DNA Testing) and DNA Testing 2 (Autosomal or Ethnicity DNA Testing). On the Male Y-DNA page, I'm adding the names of my 25-Marker matches and where they're located. Be sure to check them out.

3. I updated the page on Slavery. The Barringers, Beattys, Loftins, McCorkles, Setzers, Sherrills and Witherspoons all owned slaves somewhere in their lineage. Slaves were left as inheritance from parents to their children before slavery was abolished by the United States Constitution, Amendment 13 - Ratified 06 Dec 1865 after the conclusion of the Civil War.

4. A fun page I created several years ago was one about our Royal Lineage. I've updated that page. Some might disagree with its authencity, but it was not just my study, but the study of many others. The truth is, we are "kin" to EVERYONE - if you just manage to find the right pathway. There's an old fun song from many years ago entitled, "I'm My Own Grandpa" that was recorded by several people - including Ray Stevens. It's hilarious, but if you take the time to follow the lyrics and the genealogy trail, the words of the song actually do take you in a direction to be "your own Grandpa". If you're "kin" to a famous person, tracing your genealogy might be a little easier - because so many people have studied those lineages thoroughly. I personally believe it's possible that we have a genealogy connection with George Washington and since his ancestry has been studied and traced for hundreds of years, you know there are lots of studies and books about it. If we do have a Royal Lineage, this is how I believe it goes... The Loftins connected with the Laniers when our ancestor John Loftin married Martha Lanier. Martha was the granddaughter of Sampson Lanier Sr. and Elizabeth Washington (thus the Washington connection). Elizabeth Washington was the 2x Great Granddaughter of Sir Lawrence Washington and Margaret Butler (who also happen to be the 3x Great Grandparents of George Washington). The Washingtons came from England. They were "gentry" - people in a very good social position, such as noble birth. Be sure to check out the various links in our "Miscellaneous" News.

5. I've created a new page that is called Genealogy Terms that explains the difference between a "first cousin" and a "first cousin once removed".  There are also explanations of "Indenture", "Land Indenture", "Marriage Bond" and more. ... and is your grandmother's sister your "great aunt" or your "grand aunt".

FAMILY: Loftin
(Beatty, Corzine, Cranford, Fisher, Givens, Harwell, Kaiser, Lanier, Lomax, McCorkle, Rudisill, Sherrill, Upright, Washington, Work)

1. I recently connected with Kevin Daniel Loftin from Lincoln County, NC. Kevin and I talked on the phone and email then eventually meet at my church in Lincolnton. Kevin shared information about his lineage from Grady Woodrow Loftin. I added that information to the Loftin Family Descendancy and the Eldridge Loftin Family Descendancy. I created new pages for Grady Woodrow Loftin (1916-1961) and Harold Gene Loftin (1937-1998). Kevin's lineage connects with mine through John and Martha Lanier Loftin's sons James Loftin (1768-1836) and Eldridge Edward Loftin (1782-1842).  Kevin's father, Harold Douglass Loftin, and I are 6th cousins - making Kevin and me 6th cousins once removed.

2. I updated several of the Decendancy pages, including: the Loftin Family Descendancy, the James Loftin Family Descendancy and the Eldridge Loftin Family Descendancy.

3. Recently I was talking with my two oldest granddaughters about cousins. They only have "ONE" first cousin. It started me thinking, "How many first cousins do I actually have?" - so I created a page called Cousins By the Dozens to display the data.

4. I received a really nice email from Michael Locke McCorkle this week. Mike shared information about his lineage through Catawba County Judge, Alexander Locke McCorkle. I've added Mike's lineage to the McCorkle Family Descendancy. Mike's grandfather, Maj. General Charles Milton "Sandy" McCorkle, Jr. (1915-2009) attended West Point and spent his life in military service to our country - serving during World War 2 as a pilot. I've added information about Maj. General McCorkle to the World War II page - including photos and other information about his military service. Mike is from Texas but is currently living in Colombia, South America with his wife, Sandra, and son Alejandro McCorkle. Mike says, "there are some Indian tombs in the property we bought which I am now excavating them." You never know where you're gonna find another "cousin". Thanks Mike for sharing. You can contact Michael Locke McCorkle at michael_mccorkle@yahoo.com .

4. I updated the webpage for James Franklin Loftin, (b. Abt. 1827).

2. I updated the Revolutionary War page with information about additional ancestors who served in this pivotal time of American history. Information was added about John Loftin (1740) and William Sherrill.

FAMILY: Setzer
(Aderholdt, Barringer, Bovey, Bushart, Deal, Heavner, Herman, Ikert, Miller, Motz, Rankin, Witherspoon)

1. Jacob Lanier Setzer's first wife was Delilah Deal. The Death Certificate of their son, Patrick Sylvanus Sezer, lists his mother's name as Eliza Deal. It's likely that her full name was Delilah Eliza/Elizabeth Deal. That information has been added to Jacob's page as well as the Setzer Family Descendancy and the Deal Family Descendancy.

2. I updated the Revolutionary War page with information about additional ancestors who served in this pivotal time of American history. Information was added about Captain Mathias Barringer and his brother Captain John Paul Barringer as well as Johannes Wilhelm Harman/Herman, Adam Setser/Setzer, Jacob Setzer Jr. and John Setzer Sr.

3. I created a new page for John Paul Barringer (Johann Paulus Behringer) - the first of his family to America. I've updated the Barringer Descendancy, as well as the pages for Mathias Barringer (b.1727) and his father Wilhelm Behringer (b.1692).

DNA & MISCELLANEOUS

1. I've updated the Stories of Faith page and hope to add additional stories by family members.

2. I continue to add pages with photos from family vacations. The Curtis Loftin Vacation Log is updated and a new page was created for Cirikli - The Wandering Stilt-Birds, one of our favorite acts at Disney World's Epcot in 1997. I've also created a page for The Aviators - Stilt Butterflies that we saw at Disney World in 2000. There will eventually be pages for the various theme parks at Disney World, but that will take some time.

1. I continue to work on pages with photos and information on the traveling Carolyn & I have done over the years. In February I added the following pages: Big Red Boat Cruise to the Bahamas (1996), Biltmore Estate (2004), Cancun, Mexico (1995), The Grand Canyon (2006) and The Outer Banks (2001). I needed one centralized location where I could go to access all of them so I created a Vacation Log Page.

As I've moved into March, I've added the following vacation pages: Beach 2001 (Outer Banks, Kill Devil Hills, NC), Las Vegas, Nevada (2006) which takes a close look at the various themed hotels & casinos; Two Cirque du Soleil Shows - "Ka" and "O"; and The Star Trek Experience, Disney Wonder Cruise (2003) ...

1. I've updated the Sadie Elizabeth Loftin Murray Lee (b.1909) page with updated information on Paul Murray's ancestry and the siblings of Vernon Lee.

2. I've added several new pages for my granddaughters, Savanna and Alexandria. They are Savanna 2002, Savanna 2003, Savanna 2004, Savanna 2005Alexandria 2002, Alexandria 2003, Alexandria 2004 and Alexandria 2005.

3. As I was putting together photos for the various pages for my granddaughters, I decided to create a page with photos that highlight the various years in my family's life - starting with Loftin, Curtis - 2004 Family Photos .

4. We've not done a lot of traveling over the years but we have done some. I decided to create a place to showcase photos from our various trips and vacations. These are the ones I have completed thus far (alphabetically): Big Red Boat Cruise to the Bahamas (1996), Biltmore Estate (2004), followed by Canaun, Mexico (1995), The Grand Canyon (2006), The Outer Banks - Lighthouses - Elizabethian Gardens - Wright Brothers Museum (2001). I needed one centralized location where I could go to access all of them so I created a Vacation Log Page.

DNA & MISCELLANEOUS

1. I've started putting together a chart on the HOMEPAGE of this website that lists the various family names and their origins. I hope you'll take a look at it.

2. In 2013 I created a tribute page for my dear friend Betty/Bettie Orr Daniel Wessell (1934-1995). I was recently contacted by Elizabeth Marshall whose father is a cousin of Bettie's first husband, Jaquelin Ambler Marshall. Elizabeth shared some additional information with me, which motivated me to update the data on Bettie's page. I've added census documents, school photos, marriage licenses, and much more. Thanks Elizabeth for sharing with me. As I researched documents at Ancestry.com, I came across a number of photos and documents for Betty/Bettie's sister, Barbara Orr Daniel Smiley. I started to put them on the bottom of Bettie's page, but as the amount of information increased, I decided to create a separate page for Barbara.

FAMILY: Loftin
(Beatty, Corzine, Cranford, Fisher, Givens, Harwell, Kaiser, Lanier, Lomax, McCorkle, Rudisill, Sherrill, Upright, Washington, Work)

1. Each year I create a new page for each of my granddaughters to show the various photos and talk about some of the various activities they've been involved in. I've got two of the three completed - Alexandria 2016 and Savanna 2016.

FAMILY: Setzer
(Aderholdt, Barringer, Bovey, Bushart, Deal, Heavner, Herman, Ikert, Miller, Motz, Rankin, Witherspoon)

1. I've updated the page for Frederick William Aderhold (b.1748) with additional documents and information - including a copy of his will and a tax document from when he lived in Pennsylvania.

2. I've worked extensively updating the page for Jacob Israel Aderhold (b. 1775), adding Census records for 1810, 1820, 1830, 1840 and 1850 - as well as photo of headstones. I've also updated the list of Jacob & Elizabeth Heavner Aderhold's children to include birth and death dates with locations as well as spouses and marriage dates.

3. I've updated the pages of Sarah Elizabeth Aderhold (b. 1818) and her husband Miles Rankin Witherspoon (b. 1817) with new information. Because of limited connection with other groups of people during this period of time, it wasn't unusual for siblings in one family to marry siblings in another family. Sarah's youngest brother, John Jacob Aderhold (b. 1822), married Miles' youngest sister, Anna Witherspoon (b. 1819) on 13 Nov 1843.

4. The Aderhold family name is spelled various ways on Headstones, Census and other records - including Aderhold, Adderhold, Aderholt and Aderholdt. Since everyone listed on this website comes from the same common ancestors, I've decided to make all of the spellings "Aderhold". If your branch in this family spells your name other than Aderhold and you would like to have it changed, contact me with the pertinent information and I'll be glad to make the changes. My email is located at the bottom of this page.

FAMILY: Goble
(Babst/Bobst, Douglas, Faber, Fulbright, Hefner, Meinhert, Miller, Pabst/Bobst, Robinson)

1. I've not done very much work on the Pabst/Bobst branch of the family thus far, but I was recently emailed by David Pope who shared some updated information which I added to the Abraham "the Younger" Pabst (b.1664) page. As time passes, location names sometime change. This happened in 1842 when the upper half of Lincoln County, North Carolina, became Catawba County. David visited the location of the birth of Abraham "the Younger" Pabst with his two granddaughters in 2015. The area where Abraham was born was Bavaria, GERMANY but today it is called Rheinland-Pfalz, GERMANY. David shared photos of his trip to Germany with me several years ago. I now have them added to the bottom of the Pabst Descendancy Page. I've also made slight modifications to all the other Pabst/Bobst pages.

1. I've started putting together a chart on the HOMEPAGE of this website that lists the various family names and their origins. I hope you'll take a look at it.

2. Are you proud of your Scottish heritage? There are many branches in our family with Scottish origins. I've researched and found the tartan for these branches of our family. A Tartan is a pattern consisting of criss-crossed horizontal and vertical bands in multiple colors. Tartans originated in woven wool, but now they are made in many other materials. Tartans are particularly associated with Scotland. Scottish kilts almost always have tartan patterns

**** "Infant Son 4" Loftin 1928 1928 [Died in Infancy]
* Willie Thelma Loftin and Callie Elma Loftin were twins - born on 31 May 1911 in Catawba County, North Carolina.
**Daisy Pearl Loftin and "Infant Son 2" Were twins - born on 06 Jun 1914. "Infant Son 2" only lived a few days before his death.
*** The Catawba County Birth Index for this child, "Infant Son 33, shows that he was born 22 Oct 1922 (the same day and month as his older brother Oscar).  This child's Death Certificate shows that he died 27 Oct 1922 and that he lived for 1 day and 2 hours - so it's more likely that the child was born on 26 Oct 1922 - instead of 22 Oct 1922 as the Birth Index shows.  Cause of death was "malformation of upper air passage".
**** It's possible that this last "Infant Son" of Alonzo and Ida was born in 1927.  It is also possible that the grave marker for this "Infant Son" born in 1928 was incorrectly dated and should have been for the 1922 "Infant Son".
