Jacob B. Hedrick

Born: Abt. 1802, Lincoln/Catawba County, NC
Died: Aft. 1870, Catawba Co, NC

Jacob B. Hedrick was the seventh child born to John Hedrick (1755-1820) and Louiza Lovi (1760-1865). He was born about 1802 in Lincoln County, NC (which would later become Catawba Co, NC). Jacob's birth is derived from the 1870 Catawba County, Census which lists his age at the time as 68.

Records indicate that John Hedrick and Louiza Lovi Hedrick had at least ten children.

Jacob's father, John H. Hedrick, died about 1820 (Bef. 17 Jan 1825) without leaving a Will. Jacob's elder brother, Phillip Hedrick, and family friend George Lagle (brother to Henry Lagle and brother-in-law to Margaret Aline Hedrick Lagle) were bound to make an inventory of their father's possessions.

Jacob, who was 58 in 1860, became romantically involved with Harriett Lucinda Goble during the winter months of 1859-1860. Harriet was 20 at the time and the the daughter of Lewis Carlan Goble (b.1813) and Evi Hefner Goble.

Jacob and Lucinda's romance was revealed when she became pregnant and gave birth to a son, Jacob Hedrick Goble, on 22 Oct 1860.

It does not appear that Jacob B. Hedrick ever married, and he seems to have been in-and-out of the area.  There are several bastardy cases brought against him through the years, including a case in 1861 with Lucinda Goble and in 1866 with Susan Shepard.

The 1870 Catawba County Census, shows that Jacob Hedrick, age 68, was living with Alfred & Matilda Pope (House Visitation No. 105) in the Clines Township of Catawba County, NC, close to the Lewis Carlan Goble family (who were House Visitation No. 102). His son, Jacob Hedrick Goble was 10 years old at the time and living with his grandparents, Lewis Carlan Goble and Evi Hefner Goble. Harriett Lucinda Goble married Andrew Jackson "Jack" Christopher about 1865 and they were living in the Millers Township of Alexander County, NC.

No photos of Jacob B. Hedrick have been found at this time. There is, however, a photo of his brother, Joseph Hedrick, and his son, Jacob Hedrick Goble. Considering family appearance, I imagine Jacob B. Hedrick probably looked similar to these two men.

The back of the photo of Jacob Goble and his family has the inscription, "Fannie + Jack + daughter Beck"
and came from the photo collection of Beulah Vernesta Johnson Goble (wife of Martin Luther Goble and daughter-in-law of Jacob Hedrick Goble).

There has been no additional information found about Jacob B. Hedrick before or after the 1870 Census at this time. As more becomes available, this page will be updated.
