On March 23, 1732, Sampson sold the 200 acres left to him by his father-in-law Richard Washington to the Vestry of Nottingham Parish, currently Southampton County, Virginia.  On February 19, 1734, Sampson and Elizabeth sold the 200 acres of land given to her by her father.  Some time before 1740 they moved to Brunswick County, Virginia.

In July, Elizabeth gives Power of Attorney to her son Lemuel Lanier of Brunswick Co. (O.B. 10, 30 Jul7 1767). On 20 July 1767, "Elizabeth Lanier, late of the Collony of Virginia and County of Brunswick, appoint my son Lemuel Lanier of Brunswick Co, VA, my lawful attorney." (O.B. 9-34)

Between November 1765 and July 1767, Elizabeth Washington Lanier moved to Pitt County, NC, with her son James Henry Lanier and his family. The suit in Brunswick County, VA, continued until 29 Sep 1772, when the case was dismissed, in favor of the Plaintiff. By that time, Elizabeth was 80 years old. (O.B. 12, p. 129)
