John Henry Pinkney Johnson III

Born: 12 Apr 1889
Died:  08 Apr 1973, Stony Point, Alexander Co, NC

John Henry Pinkney Johnson III was the second child born to John Henry Pinkney Johnson II (b. 1865) and Nancy Caroline Leslie.  He was born 12 Apr 1889.

(The photo of John Henry Pinkney Johnson III came from R.M. Summers at Ancestry.com)

According to his niece, Willie Goble Loftin (daughter of Beulah Vernesta Johnson & Martin Luther Goble), the nieces and nephews called him "Uncle Hen".

There's a little confusion over both Hen's (1889) name and that of his father.  Hen's (1889) Death Certificate lists his name as "Henry Pinkney (J. H.) Johnson" - and also lists his father as "Henry Pinkney Johnson".  His grave marker lists Hen's name as "Henry Pinkney Johnson III" (also indicating that that was his father's name).  It appears that both Hen (1889) and his father were actually "John Henry Pinkney Johnson".

Hen's father died less than two months after his birth when a tree fell on him.

The 1900 Iredell County Census for Shiloh Township shows Nancy living with her two children Vernesta (Beulah Vernesta) and Henry P. (Henry Pinkney).  They lived near Nancy's mother-in-law, Levina Sherrill Johnson.  This Census states that Hen was born Apr 1889 and that he was 11 years old.
