COMPUTER UPDATES COMING IN MAY 2019

I will be upgrading my computer tomorrow, June 1, 2019. My son, Philip, is installing a new mother board, new RAM and a new 10TB hard drive. I'm still using Windows 7 but in 2020 Windows will no longer be providing updates and virus protection so I'm also gonna go ahead and update my computer to Windows 10. I've been avoiding it for years because I use Front Page to create and maintain this website and it is not compatible with Windows 10. As a result of these various updates, I'm gonna have to get my computer back up and going, all the software and files reloaded, and eventually learn a new software in order to update The Loftin Family Genealogy Website. I'm not sure how long after these updates it will be before I'm finally active again. But, good Lord willing, I'll be back.

FAMILY: Loftin
(Beatty, Corzine, Cranford, Fisher, Givens, Harwell, Kaiser, Lanier, Lomax, McCorkle, Rudisill, Sherrill, Upright, Washington, Work)

1. I got a nice email from Michael Lawrence who shared photos of the 1908 Jones Family Reunion in Avenger, Texas. The original ancestor, James Jones, was first married to Elizabeth Robinson and secondly married to Isabella Caroline Loftin (the daughter of Thomas Loftin and sister of James Franklin Loftin). Thanks Lawrence for the photos and helping me correct some information about the Jones family. Those photos are posted on the page for Isabella Caroline Loftin Jones.

2. The Loftin Family Reunion was held on Sunday, May 19, 2019, 1:00 p.m., in the Family Life Center of Catawba Methodist Church for the descendants of William Alexander Loftin and Laura Rossie Cranford. The group was small but the food and fellowship was great.

1. In received a very pleasant email from Rebecca Hefner McMahan who descends from Laura Melinda Dagenhart Hefner. Laura is a daughter of Rufus and Martha Ann Goble Dagenhardt. Rebecca had photos and some information to share. These have been added to the page for Martha Ann Goble Dagenhardt (b. 1844). You can contact Rebecca at r_mcmahan@bellsouth.net . Thanks Rebecca.

DNA & MISCELLANEOUS

1. I updated the Revolutionary War page with some information about the popular Hymn, "Come Thou Almighty King", which was penned about 1757 by an unknown author. The Hymn was first sung during the Revolutionary Rar - to the tune of "God Save the King" (same tune as "My Country Tis of Thee").

1. Melvin Franklin Robinson, 90, of Newton, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Abernethy Laurels in Newton. Melvin was born 17 Aug 1928 in Catawba County, NC, to the late Cephas and Bessie Womack Robinson. He was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden; a United States Army veteran serving in the Korean War and was retired from the construction industry. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Elsie B. Robinson, son Caroll Roblinson, and brothers Ralph, Guy, John, Ernest and Blair Robinson. Those left to cherish his memory are: son Michael D. Robinson and wife Myra of Newton; grandchildren Christy and Jimmie Buff, Leslie and Philip Loftin and Jason and Jennifer Robinson; great-grandchildren Nathan Robinson and Kayli Loftin; special friend and companion of over eighteen years Margaret J. Bowman. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church in Maiden, NC, with Rev. Michael Statton, Dr. Ed Yount and Rev. Mike Daughtrey officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Michael Robinson, Jason Robinson, Jimmie Buff, Philip Loftin, Erick Elmore and Joe McCaslin.

* Willie Thelma Loftin and Callie Elma Loftin were twins - born on 31 May 1911 in Catawba County, North Carolina.
**Daisy Pearl Loftin and "Infant Son 2" Were twins - born on 06 Jun 1914. "Infant Son 2" only lived a few days before his death.
*** The Catawba County Birth Index for this child, "Infant Son 33, shows that he was born 22 Oct 1922 (the same day and month as his older brother Oscar).  This child's Death Certificate shows that he died 27 Oct 1922 and that he lived for 1 day and 2 hours - so it's more likely that the child was born on 26 Oct 1922 - instead of 22 Oct 1922 as the Birth Index shows.  Cause of death was "malformation of upper air passage".
**** It's possible that this last "Infant Son" of Alonzo and Ida was born in 1927.  It is also possible that the grave marker for this "Infant Son" born in 1928 was incorrectly dated and should have been for the 1922 "Infant Son".
