Lillie Stamey
Loftin was the second child born to
Alonzo Lester Loftin and
Cornelia Estelle Lowrance. Lillie was born 08 Nov 06 Sep
1897 in Catawba County, NC. She was infant baptized on 19
Oct 1897 at the Catawba Methodist Church. Lillie appears
to have been named after her mother's brother, Arthur Stamey
Lowrance, who was born 23 Aug 1879. |

|
After Cornelia's death from
pneumonia in 1904, Lillie and her
siblings spent a short period of time in an orphanage in the
North Carolina mountains.
|
By 1909, Alonzo married
Ida Setzer and most of the children came
back home to live with her father. |
|
|

|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Lillie, Roy and Floy came to live with Alonzo and Ida.
Verdie Lee was with her grandparents, Alexander & Laura Loftin.
Nannie was at the Elhanan Training Institute in Marion Township. |

The 1910 Catawba County Census shows Lillie living with Alonzo
and Ida and lists her age as 12. |
|
|
|
According to the
1920 Gastonia City Census, Lillie, Floye and Verdie Lee were
living with Wade & Nannie Martin in Gastonia. Lillie
was 22-years-old and working
as telephone operator. She worked as an operator for Bell
South for twenty-five years. |

Lillie was an attractive young woman but she never married.
She died 04 Aug 1988, just before turning 91, and is buried at Center Methodist Church
near many of the other Loftins. |
