"Infant Son"
Loftin |
|
|
|
|
|
Born: 06 Jun 1914, Catawba, Catawba County, NC Died:
13 Jun 1914, Catawba, Catawba County, NC |
|
Alonzo Lester Loftin and
Ida Lillian Setzer had a second set of twins with the birth
of a girl and boy born on 06 Jun 1914 in Catawba, Catawba
County, NC. The girl was named
Daisy Pearl Loftin but it seems as if the boy was never
named. |
|
The only official records that have been found on this "Infant
Son" are his tombstone and his Death Certificate. |
|
I have found several Ancestry.com trees that list this "twin"
child of Alonzo Lester Loftin and Ida Lillian Setzer Loftin as
"Daniel P. Loftin" but I don't believe that the child was ever
actually named and was probably just referred to as "the baby".
His grave marker at Center Methodist Church in Catawba County,
NC lists his name as "Infant Son" Loftin and both his birth and
death dates as "June 6, 1914".

In November 2014, a Death Certificate was discovered for this
child and his name is listed as "Infant". He died 7 days after
he was born - meaning that he died on 13 Jun 1914. No cause for
death was listed. The Death Certificate incorrectly listed his
sex as a "girl" and his place of burial as "Friendship" Church.
We know he was buried at Center Methodist - along with the other
children that died in infancy. |

According to Deannie Herman Massagee Hilton (the daughter of
Daisy Pearl Loftin Herman and twin of this "Infant" boy),
she said that her
mother told her the child was a "boy" but that she had never
mentioned a name for the boy. |

|
The Census collector for the 1920 Catawba County Census
incorrectly spelled Alonzo & Ida Loftin's daughter Daisy Pearl's
name as "Dassie P." (See Below). Unfortunately when the data
from this Census was transcribed it was written as "Danie P."
Loftin - and several genealogists assumed the child's name was
Daniel P. Loftin. Since this "Infant Son" was not living at the
time of the 1920 Census we know that the name is not referring
to him, but instead is referring to Daisy Pearl. |
