The 1910 Census reveals that Rachel and Ed were still living in
the River Bend Township of Gaston County, NC. The census
shows Rachel's age as 50 and Ed as 39. Living in the
family home were Parvell (age 19), and Rachel's son with Ed,
Leonard (age 14). Ed and step-daughter Parvell were all
working at a cotton mill in the area. Even 14-year-old
Leonard Hand had not attended school that year, but instead was
working at the cotton mill. The census further states that
everyone in the family could read and write. |
|
Under the section for children, the census indicates that Rachel
had birthed 5 children but only 4 were living - meaning her son
James H. Loftin had died between 1900 and 1910. |
