Shortly after the war began, Langdon and Lafayette both enlisted on March 25, 1862.  Both were Privates in the 52nd N.C. Reg. Co. H.  Langdon was discharged May 28, 1862.  The reason is unknown, but it's possible that it may have been due to either his age (36), illness or wounds.

Sometime later, Langdon re-enlisted in the Confederate Army (November 1, 1964).  He served in the 23rd N.C. Reg. Co. B for the remainder of the war.

Some time after the Civil War, the family sold their home located near what is now called Punpkin Center and either purchased or inherited 204 acres on Old Plank Rd. near the Brevard's, Forney's and Morrison's.  Langdon lived there until his death.

According to the 1880 Lincoln County Census, Langdon and Cenie (or Sena) were living in the Catawba Springs Township of Lincoln County.  There were six children living in the home: Epsie, Vardrey, Philo, Frances, Alonzo, Sarah and Ida.  Eldest son Marion was living nearby with his wife, Sarah, and their children.  The Census shows that Langdon's father, Eldridge, was born in Virginia.

Langdon A. Loftin died 07 Nov 1891.  After Langdon's death, Sena continued to run the family farm.

Sena/Cenie Link Loftin lived for another 20 years.  She was able to draw a Widow's Pension due to her husband's military service.

According to the 1900 Lincoln County Census, Sena was living on the farm with three of her daughters: Epsy, Frankey (Frances), and Sallie (Sarah).  As frequently happens with Census records, there are some discrepancies with the birth months and years on this particular census.
