Foy Tate Loftin was the sixth child born to Thomas Smith Loftin (b.1863) and Mary Jane Hartline.  Foy Tate was born 30 May 1898.

Foy Tate registered for the draft on 12 Sep 1918 - he was twenty years old.  The below scan is hard to read, but the pertinent information states that he was living in Troutman, NC, and his occupation was that of a farmer.  He is also listed as having brown eyes and black hair.

Ostwalt School Teacher

 
     The Ostwalt School opened last week with Mr. Tait Loftin teacher.  Every child in the district of school age is enrolled here or at Troutman.  Not only enrolled but attending school also.
     Wonder if all districts in Iredell can say as much.

  Oscar Litten and Tate Loftin were teaching at Springdale near Mooresville in 1924.  Both lived about 15 miles from school and commuted each day. "The Landmark" writer commented that not many years ago, anyone teaching that far from home was fortunate to get home once a month.

Miss Katheryn Hethcox Bride of Mr. Tate Loftin

 
     Troutman, Jan 13 - The home of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Clodfelter in Troutman was the scene of a lovely marriage at two o'clock, Wednesday afternoon, when Mrs. Clodfelter's sister, Miss Katheryn Hethcox, became the bride of Mr. Tate Loftin.  Rev. J. L. Hood, the bride's pastor, officiating.
     The bride and groom entered together and took their stand before a bank of ivy and ferns.  The ring ceremony of the Associated Reformed Presbyterian church was used.
     The bride was beautifully attired in a costume of peach crepe Elizabeth with hat of silver lace and pink marline trimmed in flowers and wore an exquisite corsage of roses and Roman hyacinths.
     Only a few relatives and friends were present.
     The living room in which the vows were spoken was attractively decorated in green and white and softly lighted by white candles held in crystal candle sticks.
     Immediately after the ceremony, the bride and groom left by automobile for a short trip to the eastern part of the state.
     Mrs. Loftin is the attractive daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Hethcox of Troutman.  Mr. Loftin is the son of Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Loftin, of Troutman, and holds a position in the office department of the Gulf Refining Company in Statesville.

     Marriage licenses have been issued for Foy Tate Loftin and Mary Katheryn Hethcox, of Troutman; Quiney Davidson Tatum and Bertha Terriss Boggs, of Olia Township.
 
 
 
Foy Tate had married Catherine Hethcox and they were living at a boarding house with Charles and Carrie Brown in Troutman Village, Fallstown Township, Iredell County, NC.  Foy Tate's age was 30 and Catherine was 25.  He was working as a clerk at a local oil company and Catherine was employed as a seamstress at a shirt company.

Tate and Catherine's marriage produced at least two children: Audrey Jane Loftin and Philip Lynn Loftin.

Foy Tate attended Appalachian University in Boone, NC, and taught in the Iredell County School System for four years.  He became associated with the Myers Oil Company in Statesville, NC, and was owner of the F.T. Loftin Transporting Co.  At the time of his death, he had been associated with the Myers Oil Company for 53 years and had operated the Transport company for 40 years.  He was very active in the Troutman coummunity, having served as Director of the Northwestern Bank.  He was an Ancient, Free and accepted, 32 Degree Mason.

Loftin Family Has Happy Gathering

 
     Mr. and Mrs. T. S. Loftin enjoyed a gathering of their children and grandchildren Sunday at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tate Loftin in Troutman.  Dinner was served picnic style on the lawn and the family spent a happy day together.
     Members of the family present for the gathering were John Loftin, a son, from Borger, Texas; Mr. Percy Loftin, a son, with his family; Mrs. W. W. Brown, a daughter, and Mr. Brown; another son, Mr. Guy Loftin, and family, all of the Troutman community; Private Robert F. Loftin, of the Army Postal Terminal, New York City, and his family; and Mr. Tate Loftin and family of Troutman.
