John Thophalus Fink was the fourth child born to Jacob Henry Fink (1840) and Catherine Martin (1840).  John was born 16 Jan 1873.

                             
 

In 1880, Jacob Henry Fink & Catherine were raising a family of seven children in the Chambersburg Township of Iredell County, NC.  John Theophalus (listed on the Census as "J. T.") was 8 years old.  His siblings were William, Samuel, Emma, Oder Elmer, Maggie and Mary Matilda.

By 1900, John was married to the "widowed" Carrie M. Colvert.  The 1900 Census shows them living in Cool Springs Township of Iredell County, NC, with Carrie's two sons, Clarence Colvert (age 6) and Willie Colvert (age 4).  Living nearby was John's younger brother Oder "Otis" Elmer Fink and his family.

The 1920 Census gives a good look into the life of the John Theophalus Fink family who were living in the Statesville Township of Iredell County, NC.  John was 48 and working the the local "fur factory".  Step-sons Clarence and Willie (Will) are listed as Finks on this Census instead of Colverts.  Will has married (Janie) and even her last name is listed as "Fink" and they were also working at the "fur factory".  Carrie was 43 and her 74-year-old mother, Wilhelmina (Unknown), was living with the family.

 
John and Carrie had three daughters: Grace (age 18) who was working as a "looper" at the "knitting mill", Emma (age 15) who was a "knitter" at the "knitting mill", and Helen (age 4).

John Theophalus Fink died 23 May 1923 in Statesville, Iredell Co, NC, at the age of 50.  The death certificate lists the cause of death as pneumonia and Catherine Fink was the informant.  His parents are listed as Henry Fink and Catherine Martin, both born in Iredell County, NC.

Mr. J. T. Fink Dead

 
     Mr. J. T. Fink, aged 51 years, died Wednesday afternoon at his home on Race Street, death resulting from pneumonia and pleurisy.  The funeral was conducted at the residence this afternoon at 2 o'clock by Rev. E. W. Fox and Rev. Mr. Hicks.  Interment was at Fifth Creek Cemetery.
     Mr. Fink is survived by his wife and three daughters as follows: Mrs. G. D. Johnson, of Asheville; Misses Grace and Helen Fink, who live at home.  Also two stepsons: Messrs Clarence and W. T. (Willie)Colvert.

Funeral of Mr. J. T. Fink

 
     The funeral of Mr. J. T. Fink was held at Fifth Creek Presbyterian Church Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock.  Mr. Fink was born January 16 1873, being 51 years of age.  He was a former resident of Rowan County and moved to Statesville three years ago, where he made his home until his death.  His death came as a sudden shock to his family and friends, he being sick only a few days.  Mr. Fink was a member of the Western Avenue Baptist Church.
