Daniel (1806) married
Elizabeth Beaver prior to 1832. By 1840, they had four
children: Sarah, David, Daniel and Moses. |
|
The 1840 Census shows Daniel and Elizabeth living in Iredell
County, NC. There were six people living on the family
farm - Daniel & Elizabeth, daughter Sarah Caroline (age 8 or 9),
son David Alexander (age 7 or 8), son Daniel Monrow (sometimes
spelled "Monroe", age 5 or 6) and son Moses David (age 3 or 4). |

The 1850
Iredell County Census lists Daniel's occupation as a "Laborer",
more than likely a Farm Laborer. They now have 7 children,
all with Biblical names: Sally (a nickname for Sarah), David,
Daniel, Moses, Jacob, Sophia Elizabeth and Susanah.
Daniel's age was listed as 47 and Elizabeth as 41. |

Daniel and Elizabeth had at least seven children. |

|
|
The Fink family attended St. Martin's Church in Iredell County,
NC. |
|
Church records from St Martin's Church in Iredell County, NC
give the following information: |
|
Daniel Fink had a
son born the 26th of November 1832 named Daniel Alexander who
was baptized October 27, sponsor Elisabeth Fink. |
|
The 1850 Census lists this son as Daniel A. Fink instead of
Daniel Alexander Fink. The correct name was more than
likely David Alexander Fink. |
|
|
May 1st 1834 was
born to Daniel Fink a son and was baptized the 12th August 1838
and named David Monrow. |
|
Both the 1850 & 1860 Census lists this son as Daniel M. Fink,
more than likely this same Daniel Monrow Fink. |
|
|
September 25th 1836
was born to Daniel Fink a son and was baptized August the 12th
1838 and named Hosei David. |
|
Both the 1850 & 1860 Census lists one son as Moses D.
The birth years are the same and this could easily be the same Hosei
David
Fink mentioned at St. Martin's Church. |
|
|
|
|
The 1860
Iredell County Census says Daniel and Elizabeth's farm was
"on the Catawba" River. Five of their children were still
living at home: Daniel, Moses, Jacob, Sophia and Susan. The listed Real Estate value was $4300, and
Personal Estate was listed as $400. |

Youngest son Jacob H. Fink enlisted on 18 Jun 1861 at the age of
21 in Company A, 33rd Regiment North Carolina. The
enlistment location was Iredell County, NC. Jacob was
still with Company A when they surrendered at Appomattox Court
House, VA, on 09 Apr 1865. |
|
|
|
Records indicate that elder son David Alexander Fink also enlisted on
18 Jun 1861. David enlisted as a Private at the age of 28
in Company B, 2nd Calvary Regiment North Carolina. The
enlistment location was Iredell County, NC. It seems odd,
however, that David and Jacob would have enlisted on the same
date, yet ended up in different Companies and Regiments.
Additional records indicate David's enlistment date was 30 Aug
1861. |

Carolina. This was the same Company & Regiment that
youngest brother Jacob was in. Daniel died from wounds on

By 1870, Daniel
was age 64 and Elizabeth was 60. His Real Estate value had
dropped to $800 and his Personal Estate value had dropped to
$200. Sophia, age 26, and Susan L., age 24, were living
with their parents. |

age 52. Daniel's daughter,
Sarah/Sallie Leslie/Lasley, had returned home after the death of
her husband. |
|
This Census lists Daniel's
father's place of birth as Pennsylvania - but his mother was
born in NC. |
|
Note there were two step-children living with the family - John
Benfield, age 12, and Jane Benfield, age 9. Stepdaughter Jane
is also listed as "maimed, crippled, bedridden, or otherwise disabled." |

Even thought the family was attending St. Martin's Church in
Iredell County, NC, in the 1830's when several of the children
were born, by the 1860's they were attending Concord Church in
Loray, NC - also in Iredell County, NC. |

History - Concord
Church |
Sketch Prepared by late S. W. Stevenson of
Mooresville, and read this morning by Rev. T. M.
Stevenson at Celebration of 150th Anniversary of the
Church's Formation. |
|
Following
is a brief summary of the history of Concord Church,
as read there this morning by Rev. T. M.
Stevenson, at the 150th Anniversary of the foundation of
the church, the sketch having been prepared in 1913 by
the late Dr. S. W. Stevenson, of Mooresville, and
slightly revised by Rev. Mr. Stevenson. [I have
kept the parts that only pertain to the Fink family]
Concord Church is at Loray, about six miles from
Statesville, on the Taylorsville Road. It was
formed from Fourth Creek Church (Statesville) about
1775. Traditions says that Concord and Bethany
Churches were set off from Fourth Creek Church at the
same time by mutual consent and Bethany Church was
organized in 1775.
Among those who entered the Confederate Army from the
congregation, the following were killed or died: J.
Houston Brown, Junius L. Hill, William Reece Hill, John
S. Summers, Leroy Alexander, Henry Lee Alexander,
Franklin Boyd, Robert M. Brady, Abraham Crawford, Felix
Clodfelter, Jacob Duke, Joseph Fry, Monroe Fink, Rufus
Guy, Marion Gibson, Stewart Gibson, Mack Hooper, Thad

Washington McLelland, Lee McLelland, Martin Sides,
Christopher Sides, Charles Sides, William Summers,
Thomas Leroy Stevenson, Washington Stevenson, John
Stikeleather, Dixon Walker, Jess Waugh, Wilson Waugh,
Martin Yates, William Hall Stevenson.
The following came home at the end of the war: Nelson
Alexander, James Crawford, Mark Davis, David Fink,
Moses
Fink, Henry Fink, Joseph Gibson, Lieut Amos Guy, A. A.
