Avery Amenious Loftin was the first child born to Caleb Murchison Loftin and Rachel A. Hager.  He was born July 1877 in North Carolina.

According to the 1880 North Carolina Census, Caleb Murchison and Rachel were living in the Catawba Springs Township of Lincoln County, NC.  Rachel's two daughters from her previous marriage was also living there.  Avery was 3 years old.

The 1900 Census shows Avery and Minnie living in the River Bend Township of Gaston County, NC.  His age is listed as 26 - but was actually 23.  Minnie was 18.  They had no children at the time.
