It appears that Mary Fisher died between 1850 and 1860.
She is not listed on the 1860 Catawba County Census, but Reuben
appears to have a new wife, Lavina Fisher, age 50.
Reuben
is 61. Reuben's daughters, Emiline (age 23),
Sarah (age
17), and Milly R (age 15) are still living on the family farm.
Thomas (age 20) is listed out of the usual chronological age
order and appears at the bottom of the household names along
with Henry Brown (age 16). Reuben's Real Estate value has
increased from $800 in 1850 to $2000 in 1860 and he has a
Personal Estate Value of $570. The Census further states
that Reuben and Lavina were not able to read or write. |

The 1870 Catawba County Census reveals that Reuben/Rubin (age
71) was living in the Mountain Creek Township, whose Post Office
was at Sherrills Ford. There were four living on the
Fisher farm: Ruben, his wife Lavina/Viney, daughter
Sarah, and a
19-year-old black female by the name of Mary Hooper. The
Census shows that Mary was born in South Carolina and had
attended school during the year. There is no indication if
she was a relative or a servant. |
