Elizabeth Ann Loftin was the first child born
to Curtis Dean Loftin and Carolyn Janet Weeks. Beth was
footling-breech and as a result the Doctors felt it would be
safer for her to be born by Caesarean-Section. |
She was born in 1976 at Catawba Memorial
Hospital in Hickory, North Carolina (Catawba County). |
|
Curtis and Carolyn wanted to give their
new-born daughter a Biblical name and they chose Elizabeth Ann.
Beth was actually named after a college friend, Elizabeth Ann
Hamilton. |
|
Curtis and Carolyn had been married for 15
months at the time of her birth. |

Mother and daughter remained in the hospital for ten days before
they went home. Curtis, Carolyn and Beth shared one small
bedroom in Curtis' parent's house. |

Within six months of Beth's birth, Curtis and
Carolyn decided to remodel the empty building next door to his
parents home and move in there. Curtis was teaching at
Catawba Middle School and Carolyn was teaching at St. Stephens
High School. |

Curtis and Carolyn were attending Mathis
Chapel Baptist Church at the time of Beth's birth. They
had attended Charismatic church meetings in college and had been
praying for a Charismatic Church to be birthed in Catawba County
so that their children could grow up appreciating and
experiencing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Shortly after her birth, Curtis & Carolyn heard of a new church
that was meeting in the Startown Community Center. It was
a Charismatic Church by the name of Newton Conover Christian
Fellowship. |
The family started attending the church shortly after that.
Beth's baby dedication took place there. Rev. Bob Hillard
was their Pastor. |

After Philip's birth, Carolyn decided to stay
at home with the children. In order to supplement the
family income, she kept additional children in their home.
Some of these children were children of teachers that taught
with Curtis. |

attending a private Christian school in Hickory, NC, by the name
of Tree Of Life Christian Academy. Beth's mother, Carolyn,
was her 4th grade teacher. |

Beth's mother, Carolyn, taught at Tree of
Life Christian Academy for the school year 1985 - 1986. In
the Autumn of 1986, their own church, Newton Conover Christian
Fellowship, started a church school with Carolyn serving as
Principal and primary teacher. Carolyn was Beth's teacher
for five years during which time the school used Accelerated
Christian Education. Each student was able to work at
their own pace and had to test out of each educational booklet
before they could move on to the next one. In addition to
the usual Reading, English, Math, Science and Social Studies,
the children also had daily devotions and were responsible for
learning large passages of scripture. |

Because Beth was allowed to work at her on
pace while attending the Christian school, she completed 6 years
of schooling in only 5 years. In the Autumn of 1990, she
started attending Bandys High School in Catawba County, North
Carolina. |
