Name Origin: England
The name Johnson was brought to England in the great wave of migration following Norman Conquest of 1066. The name literaly means "Son of John", a given name which is derived from the Hebrew name "Johanan", meaning "Jehovah has favored". The name was extremely popular in the Middle Ages as a result of the numberous connections between the name John and the Christian Church.
Spelling variations of this family name include Johnson, Joneson, Jonson, Yoynson and others.First found in Lincolnshire where the Johnson family had been granted lands by Duke William on his conquest of England in 1066.
