Ten years later and very little has changed. The family was still living in the Kings Mountain Township of York County, South Carolina and James Andrew Goble was still working as a farmer. There was a discrepancy in James Andrew and Maggie's age when compared to the 1900 Census. The Goble Family was renting the farm where they lived. This 1910 Census shows that James Andrew Goble was born in North Carolina and not South Carolina as the 1910 Census shows. James Linden Goble's age was listed as14.

James enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country during World War 1 as part of Co. D, 18th Machine Gun Battalion. He was Honorably Discharged on 12 Jul 1919 at the end of the war. After his military service, he moved back home with his parents.

James married (1) Annie Mae Barry/Berry about 1920 in York County, SC. He was 25 and she was 21. Annie was born 29 Apr 1899 in York County, SC, and was the daughter of William Steele Berry (1860 - 1925) and Mary Isabelle McCarter (1868 - 1950). Records seem to indicate that their marriage produced nice children but only four survived infancy.

The 1920 Census shows James Andrew & Margaret still living in the Kings Mountain Township of York County, South Carolina. Earlier Census records showed that James Andrew couldn't read or write, the the 1920 Census says that he can. James Andrew and Margaret's ages are both listed as 64 - which is incorrect. The 1920 shows he was born in SC but it was actually NC.

James Linden Goble, age 24, has married Annie Mae Berry, age 20, and they are living with his parents and working as "Farm Laborers" on his parent's farm.

The 1930 Census shows the Goble family still living in the Kings Mountain Township of York County, SC, on Hoover Road. James Linden Goble has taken over the role as Head of the family and they are still renting the family farm and working in the fields. James Linden, age 34, and Annie Mae, age 31, have three children: Maggie Bell age 10 (born 26 Sep 1920), Brown Neil age 7 (born 07 Mar 1923) and William Coleman age 3 months (born 13 Dec 1925/1926). The Census indicates that he was a veteran of World War 1. James Linden Goble's parents James Andrew (incorrectly listed as "James L."), age 69,  & Margaret Goble, age 74, are still living. James Andrew Goble and his parents (Luther Absalom Goble and Margaret Ann Rhodes) were born in North Carolina. The family continues to work on their rented family farm.

There are age discrepancies on this 1930 Census. Most public records (including Social Security and U.S. Veterans Gravesite) list William "Billie" Coleman Goble's birth as 13 Dec 1925 or 13 Dec 1926. Some actually show that he was born in 1927. On this Census, William/Billie's age is listed as 3/12, or 3 months old. Ten years later on the 1940 Census, William/Billie's age is listed as 13. Could it be that the Census taker intended to put 3 years but instead put 3 months? That's a question that we will never be able to answer, but we do know that he was older than 3 months.

The 1940 Census shows the Goble family still living in the Kings Mountain Township of York County, South Carolina. James Linden Goble was 44 and Annie (incorrectly listed as "Addie") was 41. They have three of their children still living at home. Brown was 17, William/Billie was 13 and Nancy Grace was 1.5 months old (and not 1 year as is listed on the Census. James' parents James Andrew and Margret are still living with them

The Census shows that James Linden Goble owns the family farm now and that the value of their home is $810. James was no longer working as a farmer. He and his eldest son, Brown, were both working at a local cotton mill where James was a "Carpenter" and Brown was a "Sweeper". James worked 52 weeks in 1939 at the cotton mill and his yearly income was $825. The Census further shows that James had worked 40 hours the week before the Census was taken. Brown had worked 12 weeks and his yearly income was $16.

This Census gives information about the amount of education each person in the family had received. James Lindon Goble had completed the 7th grade where Annie had completed two years of high school. Eldest son, Brown, had completed 4 years of high school and 13-year-old William/Billie had completed 7th grade.

James Linden Goble and Annie Mae Berry Goble's eldest son, Brown Neil Goble, died 01 Jun 1959 at the age of 34 from Congestive Heart Failure complicated by Rheumatic Heart Disease. According to his Death Certificate, Brown had been dealing with Congestive Heart Failure for 8 weeks and Rheumatic Heart Disease for over 20 years - at least from the time he was a 13-year-old boy.

Congestive Heart Failure is a weakness of the heart that leads to a buildup of fluid in the lungs and surrounding body tissues. Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD) is the most common acquired heart disease in children in many countries around the world and is caused by rheumatic fever (a strep infection). Treating strep throat with antibiotics can prevent rheumatic fever.

Brown was married to Lilah Virginia Workman Goble at the time of his death and the couple was living at 502 Davis Park Rd in Gastonia, Gaston County, NC. Brown died at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC.
