Tyler Beatty was the tenth child born to Charles Manson Beatty (1795 - 1863) and Judith Sherrill (1801 - 1858).  Tyler was born 02 Aug 1840 in Lincoln County (now Catawba County), NC.

The 1850 Catawba County Census lists the names and ages of everyone living on Charles & Judith's farm which was valued at about $1200.  Tyler Beatty was 9 years old at the time of the Census.

Judith died 04 Jan 1858.  The 1860 Catawba County Census shows that only Charles and three of his children were still living on the family farm.  Tyler was 20 years old at the time of the Census and was working as a "Farm Laborer"

The American Civil War was the most difficult time in our nations history.  At times it was neighbor against neighbor and brother against brother.  The issues of states rights and slavery separated the Union of states.  It had its effect on our families, too, costing the lives of a number of our ancestors.

Records indicate that at least five of Charles Manson Beatty's sons served the Confederacy during the Civil War - including Franklin, Calvin, Wilburn, Cephas and Tyler.
 
Tyler Beatty, age 21, enlisted 06 Jun 1861 as part of Company F, 23rd Regiment, NC Troops.  He was taken prisoner at Gettysburg, PA, 01 Jul 1863, and was confined at Fort Deleware, DE, until transferred to Point Lookout, MD, Oct 15-18, 1863.  Tyler was paroled at Point Lookout and transferred to Cox's Wharf, James River, VA, where he was received February 14-15, 1865 for exchange.  He died after the war on 17 Dec 1907 at the age of 67.
 
 
 
After the war, Tyler married Nancy Adeline "Ada/Addie" Parks on 05 Mar 1868.  Ada was born 02 May 1848 and died 29 Jan 1906..  Their marriage produced at least seven children.

The 1870 Census shows Tyler and Ada living in the Mountain Creek Township of Catawba County, NC, in the Sherrills Ford area.  Tyler's age was  29 and Ada 23.  Their only child at the time was Amanda Wanette, who was 2 years old.  Tyler's Real Estate Valus was $500 and his Personal Estate Value was $250. Tyler's sister, Sally Lavina "Viney" Beatty, was also living with his family.

The 1880 Census shows Tyler and Ada still living in the Mountain Creek Township of Catawba County, NC.  Tyler's age is 39 and Ada was 33.  There are four children listed on the Census: Mandy (Amanda Luzetta, age 12), Lester (Mary Lester, age 9), Zettie (Luzetta, age 6) and newborn son "Marvin" (actually Charles McCulloch Beatty, who was born in April 1880, and was 1 month old at the time of the Census).  Tyler's sister, Viney, was still living with the family.
 
The Census further shows that Ada had "Diares" (diarrhea) on the day that the Census taker came to the family home.

The 1900 Census shows Tyler and Ada (Addie) living in the Sherrills Ford Precinct of Catawba County, NC.  Tyler was 57 and Ada/Addie was 52.  Also living with Tyler and Addie were the following children: Amanda Wanetta (age 31), Luzetta/Zettie (age 24), Charles McCulloch (age 20), Eugene Parks (age 16), twin William Burdell (age 19) and twin Cephus Burett (age 12). Tyler's sister Viney was still living with the family.
 
The Census shows that Addie had given birth to 7 children but only 6 were still living.  Second-born daughter Mary Lester Beatty died 02 Jun 1892 at the age of 20 and was not listed on the Census.

Nancy Adeline "Ada/Addie" Parks Beatty died 29 Jan 1906 in Sherrills Ford, Catawba County, NC.  Tyler Beatty died 17 Dec 1907 in Sherrills Ford, Catawba County, NC.  They were buried in the Rehobeth Methodist Church Cemetery in Sherrills Ford, Catawba County, NC.
