"SEE YOU AT THE POLE"

River Bend Middle School, 25 Sep 2013

See You at the Pole (SYATP) is an annual gathering of Christian students of all ages at a flagpole in front of their local school for prayer, scripture-reading and hymn-singing, during the early morning before school starts. The American SYATP events occur on every fourth Wednesday of September. The events began in 1990, in the United States, where public schools cannot sponsor prayers and some Christians see public schools as hostile to Christian students. It has grown by word of mouth, announcements at youth rallies and churches, and the Internet and now occurs internationally. In 2005, over two million students in the U.S. participated.

Students gather in anticipation of the annual event

Savanna was one of the speakers at the 2013 event

CHRISTMAS

The Loftin & Seese families always go to Poppi & Nonni's house (Curtis & Carolyn Loftin)
for lunch on Christmas Day.

Lunch at Poppi & Nonni's house included: Country-Style Steak, Chicken-N-Dumplings,
Broccoli Pie, Broccoli Cornbread, Green Beans, Mashed Potatoes, Deviled Eggs and Biscuits

The Seese family has a fun gift for Kayli

Savanna & Ali learn that their Christmas/Hanukkah gift from Poppi & Nonni can only be acquired by going through an "Amazing Race" style treasure hunt - here they are with their first clue

Video 1: The Amazing Christmas Race - CLICK HERE

CLUE # 1: Go to Nonni's room.  Find something you drink with.  Bring Nonni the money you find there.  Now go to the den and sing (together) the first 6 verses of "The Twelve Days of Christmas".  If you don't remember them, it might be a good idea to go to the back of the house and rehearse together, since you have to sing the verses correctly, and with "personality" ... be creative!  It's a performance!  Once you have SUCCESSFULLY performed the song, Poppi will hand you your next clue.  Remember, NICE is the main word for your hunt.

One of their first pieces of money, a 1 dollar bill, was found inside a straw
that was still in a paper wrapper

CLUE # 2:  There's a place in the house where Poppi keeps his jewelry.  Look there for a different kind of jewelry.  It's green - a $1 Dollar Bill in the shape of a ring!  Bring Nonni the green item you find.  Now both of you go to the den and (correctly) sing the rest of "The Twelve Days of Christmas".  If your Dad is impressed, he will give you the next clue.

The next clue

CLUE # 3: Remember playing the game, "Hot or Cold"?  Well ... you're COLD.  Find the cold cash, but bring it back, warm and dry, to Nonni,  Next, lead the whole family in singing the 1st verse and chorus of "We Three Kings."  If everybody (except Kayli) sings all the way through, your Mom will give you your next clue.  If not, you'll have to ask everybody to start over.

Looking for cold cash ...

After finding the $1 frozen solid in a block of ice in the freezer,
Savanna & Ali take it outside and break the ice with a hammer - releasing the $1

The $1 has to be warm and dry before they can go on to the next clue

CLUE # 4:  Looks like you need some GUIDE-ance after that song!  ("Guide us to Thy perfect light...")  Here's your clue: N 3541.689  W 081051659.  (If you don't understand the numbers, ask Dad ... He knows everything!)  Find the star.  Bring the objects back to Nonnie and then report to Aunt Leslie for the next clue.

Savanna & Ali have to use a GPS to find the "star" that Nonni has hidden outside

"The star has to be out here somewhere"

"There it is - in the apple tree!"

The next clue ...

CLUE # 5: One of you gets to guide the other sister while she is blindfolded.  Decide right now who is going to wear the blindfold.  Ask Aunt Leslie to put it on her.  After the blindfold is in place, you may open the stapled clue.  This clue is only for the sister who can see.  Sister (Ali), read the clue silently to yourself.  You may not touch your sister (Savanna).  You can only giver her ONE direction at a time.  Give her directions such as how many steps to take; turn right/left, etc.  You may NOT give her any other verbal help along the way.  For example, you may say, turn left, and she turns right.  You can't sat, "No, Not that way..."  You must give her a new clue from where she is at the time.  Give her directions that will lead her to the coat closet in the 2nd bedroom.  Your sister (Savanna) will have to be the one to find the present.  Bring it to Nonni.  Next, stand on the front porch and sing "Jingle Bells" as loud as you can.  Then go to Uncle Philip for the next clue.

CLUE # 6:  There once was a tiny chipmunk.  He lived inside the Loftin home, but no one ever knew he was there, because he was so shy.  He loved to play in the kitchen, though.  He found over a hundred windows that he could peek through to watch what was going on whenever someone was in the kitchen cooking.  Your task is to count his windows.  The correct number will earn you the final clue.  If you're wrong the first time, the other sibling will have to go to Nonni with your answer.  Rotate back and forth until you are correct.

The girls count the slats in the louvered pantry door - thinking those might be the windows ...

.. but the little windows were the small holes in the molding under the upper kitchen cabinets

DEDICATION

Savanna, You were the "first" - the first granddaughter - and I was (and still am) so proud of you.  Spending time with you always bring joy and happiness into my life.  You have no idea just how special you are.  May you always follow the LORD and seek His direction for every choice in your life.  May you always have a close and personal relationship with Yeshua/Jesus - He's the only true source of joy and happiness.  I love you and always will.  Poppi
