Cornelius Loftin III (1714 - 1785)   Born: Abt. 1714, Sussex Co, VA Died:  17 Mar 1785, Sussex Co, VA   Cornelius Loftin was born about 1714 in Sussex County, VA.  He was the son of Cornelius Loftin (b. 1675) and Mary Eldridge.   Cornelius married Elizabeth Johnson before 1738 in Virginia.  She was the daughter of Moses Johnson and Mary Collier and born before 1722.  Cornelius and Elizabeth had at least eleven children.   Children of Cornelius Lofin III and Elizabeth Johnson Name Date of Birth Date of Death Spouse Mary Loftin 15 Apr 1739 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA     John Loftin 29 Nov 1740 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA 03 Aug 1793 Greesville County, VA Martha Lanier Sarah Loftin 07 Oct 1744 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA     Moses Loftin 07 Sep 1746 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA     Lewis Loftin 1747     William Loftin 22 Oct 1748 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA   Lavina Dunn David Loftin 25 Sep 1752 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA     Patty Loftin 22 Apr 1752 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA     Elizabeth Loftin 15 Nov 1756 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA     Lucy Loftin Abt. 1760 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA     Martha Loftin 22 Mar 1764 Albermarle Parish Surry County, VA         in 1775 William Loftin, the son of Cornelius III (b. 1714), "sold out" and headed for North Carolina with his brother, Moses Loftin, and brother -in-law, Barnaby Dunn.  They ended up in what was then Montgomery County, NC in the 1780's.  Much of the area today where these families resided in now in Stanley County.  Moses Loftin lived in neighboring Rowan County for a time.
