Emanuel Alexander Witherspoon was the seventh child born to Miles Rankin Witherspoon and Sarah "Sallie" Elizabeth Aderholdt.  Emanuel was born 11 Sept 1859 in Catawba County, NC.

The 1870 Catawba County Census show the Miles Witherspoon family living in the Hamilton Township section of Catawba Station, NC.  Miles and Sarah had six children: John Hart, Thomas Aderholdt, David Hoyle, Jacob Napoleon, Emanuel Alexander and Leander Denford.  Emanuel Alexander was eleven years old.

Emanuel married Mary "Mollie" Baker, a daughter of Henry Baker and May Jenkins about 1886/87.  Mollie was born 26 Nov 1860.  Their marriage produced five children.

The 1900 Census shows Mary "Mollie" Baker Witherspoon living in the Catawba Precinct of Catawba County, North Carolina.  She is 40 years old.  The Census states her birth year correctly, but her month of birth is listed at "Feb" instead of Nov.  The Census shows that she has been married for 13 years, has given birth to five children, and that all five children are still living.
 
All five of Emanuel and Mollie's children are listed on this Census: Oscar Harlan (age 12, incorrectly transcribed as "Allen"; birth month and year should be Jun 1887), Henry Alexander (age 10; birth month and year shoudl be Dec 1889), Flossie May (age 8), Georgie Ann (age 6; birth month and year should be May 1895; she is listed as a "Son" and "M" instead of "Daughter" and "F"), Mary Alice "Allie" (age 1; birth month and year should be May 1900).

The 1910 Census shows Mollie (age 49) and some of the kids still living in the Catawba Precinct of Catawba County, North Carolina.  Their home is located on the Catawba & Claremont Road.  Mollie has been married for 23 years.  The Census shows that she has had five children and that all five are still living, but the numbers are listed beside of son Henry's name.  The Census shows that the family lives on a "Farm", that they "Own" their Farm (it's not Rented), and that the Farm is Mortgage Free.
 
Oldest son Oscar Harlan Witherspoon (age 22) is no longer living in the family home.
 
Son Henry Alexander Witherspoon (age 20) has married Irena "Rena" Ballard (age 21) and the couple are living with his mother and siblings.  Henry and Rena have a son, Oscar Coyte "Coit" Witherspoon (age 2 months).
 
Daughters Flossie (age 18), Georgie (age 15) and Alice (age 10) are also still living on the family farm.

1.  Oscar Harlan Witherspoon (b. 11 Jul 1887, Catawba Co, NC - d. 21 Nov 1968, Valdese, Burke Co, NC) married Annie Pearl Danner (b.21 Apr 1903, Catawba Co, NC - d. 28 Aug 1982, Connelly Springs, Burke County, NC).  Annie was the daughter of John Lemuel Franklin Danner (b. 13 Oct 1844, Catawba Co, NC - d. 03 Mar 1928, Catawba Co, NC) and Effie May Cody (b. 03 Jun 1875, Catawba Co, NC - d. 19 Aug 1960, Catawba Co, NC).
 
 
Oscar died 21 Nov 1968 in Valdese, Burke County, NC, at the age of 81.  The Death Certificate lists the cause of death at "Cerebral Vascular Accident" or Stroke.  His parents are listed as Alex Witherspoon and Mary Baker and his wife, Annie, was the informant of his death.

Henry's first wife, Irene May Ballard Witherspoon died 18 Mar 1920 in Kanapolis, Cabarrus County, NC.  Irena's Death Certificate lists her cause of death as "Influenza".  She was buried on 19 Mar 1920 in Kanapolis, NC.  Rena's parents are listed as L. M. Ballard and Debbie Cushion.

Henry's second marriage was to Rachel Ann "Annie" Croom Witherspoon.  Annie was born 28 Jul 1884 in Dublin County, North Carolina and died 03 Aug 1955 in Statesville, Iredell County, North Carolina.  Her Death Certificate list her parents as Henry Croom and Liza Jane Boney.  The cause of death was "Cerebral Thrombosis" (A blockage of blood flow through a vessel in the brain by a blood clot that formed in the brain itself) with additional causes listed as "Arteriosclerosis" (Hardening of the walls of the arteries to the heart).  She was 71 years old.

Henry Alexander Witherspoon died 26 Sep 1971 in Catawba, Catawba County, NC, according to his Death Certificate.  His headstone at the cemetery list his death date as 20 Sep 1971.  Cause of death was listed as "Kypentinsin Cardio Vascular Disease" (Heart Disease).  He was 80 years old.  His spouse is listed as Ida Croom.  Since we know that Henry's first wife, Irena May Ballard, died in 1920 and his second wife, Rachel Ann Croom, died in 1955, then Ida Croom must be a third wife.

4. Georgia Ann Witherspoon Green (b. 04 May 1895, Catawba County, NC - d. 15 Apr 1953, 784 Oaklawn Ave, Forsyth County, NC) married Claude Elias Green in 1925.  Claude was married twice before his marriage to Georgia. 
 
Claude (b. 31 May 1875, Obion County, Tennessee - d. 13 Jan 1952, Obion County, Tennessee) was the son of Baley Peyton Green (b. 07 Mar 1837 - d. 23 Aug 1897) and Texanna Boroughs (b. 31 Mar 1840 - d. 03 Aug 1925).
 
Claude married first Mattie Leona Thompson (b. 04 Sep 1874 - d. 29 Apr 1900) on 22 Feb 1899 in Obion County, Tennessee, when he was 23.
 
After Mattie's death, Claude married second Ollie Elizabeth West (b. 20 Nov 1872 - d. 20 May 1923) on 04 Sep 1901 in Obion County, Tennessee, when he was 26.
 
After Ollie's death, Claude married third Georgia Ann Witherspoon on 11 Nov 1925 in Gastonia, Gaston County, NC, when he was 50 years old and she was 29.

4. Mary Alice Witherspoon (b. 27 May 1900, Catawba County, NC - d. 24 Aug 1981, Winston Salem, Forsyth County, NC) married Frank Calvin Hauser (b. 07 Dec 1883, Davie County, NC - d. 15 Feb 1957, Winston Salem, Forsyth County, NC).  Frank was the son of Emanuel Pinkney Hauser (b. 08 Oct 1860, Davidson Co, NC - d. 06 Jul 1931, Forsyth Co, NC) and Catherine Riddle (b. 22 Oct 1865, Davie Co, NC - d. 05 Jul 1938, Forsyth Co, NC).
 
Frank married first Elma Mosalee Malugne on 29 Jun 1916  at the age of 32 and second Mary Alice Witherspoon on 05 May 1934 when he was 50.
 
Mary died 24 Aug 1981 and was buried in the Salem Cemetery in Winston Salem, Forsyth County, NC.
