James Brooks Loftin was the son of James Loftin and Victoria Day.  He was born 21 Aug 1879 in Catawba County, NC.
 
 
James Brooks was married three times.  First to Florence Elizabeth Millstead from Iredell County, NC.

     Monday night a week ago, Mr. Brooks Loftin and miss Florence Millstead, who lived near Mr. A. P. Clark's in Fallstown Township, ran away to get married.  The girl was only 17 and the mother objected to the marriage.  The couple went first to Catawba and then to Lincoln County, but failing to get license on account of the girl's age, they went on to South Carolina where no license is required.  The trip occupied several days but they made it successfully and were wed.

Death Claims Mrs. J. B. Loftin

 
     Mrs. J. B. Loftin, sister of Messrs. J. n. and W. M. Millstead, died Tuesday morning at 1:30, at her home in East Monbo, of pneumonia.  The funeral service was held Tuesday afternoon at 4:30 at Bethel Church, Rev. L. A. Connell officiating.  Mrs. Loftin was 36 years old.  She is survived by a husband, two children, her two brothers, and her mother, Mrs. M. E. Loftin.
 
 
 
 
 
After Florence's death, James married Luzetta Beatty - sister to Wanetta Beatty, the 2nd wife to William Alexander Loftin.  Luzetta was the daughter of Tyler Beatty and Adeline Parks.

Mrs. J. B. Loftin Dies at Home in Catawba County

 
     Mrs. Luzetta B. Loftin died Tuesday morning at 12:30 o'clock at her home in Catawba County, near Sherrills Ford.
     The funeral service was conducted at 11 o'clock Wednesday afternoon from Rehobeth Church in Catawba County, and interment was in the church cemetery.  Rev. Mr. Parker officiated at the service.
     Mrs. Loftin was 52 years old.  She was born and reared in Catawba County, and lived near Sherrills Ford for about fifty years.  She is survived by her husband, Mr. J. Brooks Loftin; by a sister, Mrs. Alexander Loftin, who lives at Catawba Station; and by four brothers, Messrs. Charles, Parks, Burdell and Burnett Miller.
 
 
 
After Luzetta's death, James married Mary Robinson on 18 May 1932.

Funeral Held For Mrs. J. B. Loftin

 
     The funeral service for Mrs. J. B. Loftin, who died at her home in Catawba County Tuesday morning, was held Wednesday at 11 o'clock from Rehobeth Church in Catawba County, and interment was in the church cemetery.  The service was conducted by Rev. J. K. Parker, Pastor of the Sherrills Ford Presbyterian Church.
     Pallbearers were Messrs. C. L. Setzer, R. H. Gabriel, Roy Sherrill, J. S. Whitener, George Robertson, and Winford Sherrill.  The flowers were in charge of Misses Ilene, Linnie and Sallie Whitener, Ruth Gabriel, Laurine and Nanon Batty, and Mrs. Miller.
 
 
 
James was a farmer.
 
 
James Brooks Loftin died 30 May 1947 in Statesville, Iredell County, NC, at H. F. Long Hospital.  He was 67 years old and the cause of death was listed as "Hypertensive Cardio-vascular renal disease" or heart disease.  The Death Certificate lists his father as "James Loftin" and his mother as "Victoria Day".  He was buried at Bethel Baptist Church in Iredell County, NC.

James B. Loftin Taken By Death

 
     Mr. James Brooks Loftin, 67, retired farmer, of near Catawba, died Friday afternoon at the H. F. Long Hospital, where he had been a patient for a few days.  He had been in declining health for several years.
     A native of Catawba County, Mr. Loftin was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James Loftin.  He was a lifelong member of Bethel Baptist Church, at East Monbo.
     Mr. Loftin was married three times.  From the first marriage to Miss Florence Elizabeth Millstead, of Iredell, two children survive, James B. Loftin, of Route 4, Statesville, and Mrs. C. V. Bridges, of Concord.  The second marriage was to Miss Louzella Beatty, of Catawba, and the third, Miss Mary Robinson, who survives.  There are two brothers and two sisters surviving, C. W. Loftin, of Mooresville, Robert B. Loftin, of Alaska, Mr. John Rogers, of Huntersville, and Mrs. T. L. Freeze, of Huntersville.
     Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock, Sat. afternoon from Bethel Baptist Church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. Mr. Walker.  Burial was in the church cemetery.
