Jacob died 12 Nov 1928. |
|
The Statesville Landmark Newspaper,
NC
November 1928 |
Jacob H. Moose, a native of Alexander county but for
fifteen years a resident of Mooresville until the recent
past was found dead in the woods near his home on the
old T. H. Williams farm in the lower end of the county
Tuesday morning. Mr. Moose had been in poor health for
recent years being a victim of cancer. He was a brick
mason by trade but was forced to give up that work on
account of his declining health and recently moved to
the country. He left his home Monday afternoon to look
after a quantity of herbs and roots that be had gathered
with a view to taking them to Statesville the next day.
He had carried severa1 sacks of Jerusalem oak seed out
near the road and had presumably returned for others. It
was understood that he was to build a fire and remain in
the woods Monday night in order to get his wares
together for an early start next morning. A Mr. Sherrill
was to call for him at a point near Jake Freezes' but as
Mr. Moose failed to show up, a search was made. He was
found in a sitting posture as if he had attempted to
rest his head on a sack of seeds. He evidently died
without a struggle, from heart affection.
Deceased was probably 69 years of age. He is survived by
his widow and the following children: Mrs. Andrew Hager,
Mrs. Marion Hager, and Mrs. Alice McAllister of Lincoln
County; Mrs. N. E. Honeycutt of Mooresville; Mrs. Lucy
Taylor of North Iredell; Jerry of Tampa, FL ; Henry
Moose lived at his father's home; and Mrs. Della
Sherrill of Davidson township. One brother and one
sister also survive. They are J A Moose and Mrs. Cynthia
Ann Lowrance, of Charlotte.
