David James Fulbright     Born: 12 Aug 1855, Olivers Crossroads, Catawba County, NC Died: 09 Oct 1918, Shiloh Township, Iredell County, NC     David James Fulbright was born 12 Aug 1855 to Mahala Catherine Miller when she was 24 years old and still single.   It is not certain who David James Fulbright's father was, although his mother Mahala said that it was David F. Fulbright, her first cousin.  Mahala knew that her Uncle William and Aunt Regina were well situated and she claimed David F. was the father.  At the time of conception, David F. seemed too young to father the child (about age 14 or 15), but he was named in the Bastardy Bond and David James Fulbright was bound to his grandfather, Jacob Miller, by the Courts.  Other sources say that his father was Randolph Johnson.        [David F. Fulbright was born on 2-18-1840 and was killed in the Civil War at the Battle of Chancellorsville, on 5-3-1863]   David James Fulbright became very prosperous, owning a mercantile store with a post office.  He was a Justice of the Peace and even taught school briefly.      David married Sarah Jane Fulp on 04 Oct 1876 In Alexander County, NC. Turner Fulp, for $335.55., adjoining the land of Julius Dagenhart.   Property Deed Land Deed photo courtesy of Sandra Fulbright Potts     The 1900 Census shows David James Fulbright and Sarah living in the Shiloh Township of Iredell County, NC.  His age was listed as 44 and Sarah was 42.  The Census show that Sarah had 10 children, with eight of them still living at home.  The children listed on the 1900 Census were James Franklin (age 17, born Apr 1883), Perry Jason (age 15, born Feb 1885), Sallie Clara (age 12, born May 1888), Oda Jane (age 9, born Sep 1890), Nora Estelle (age 6, born Sep 1893), Garland Rudolph (age 4, born Sep 1895), Walter "Wallis" Brian (age 2, born Nov 1897), and David Vanderford (age 2 months, born Mar 1900).   1900 Iredell County Census   Name Relation Race Sex Birth Age S M/W Yrs. Moose, Sallie, Odie (Back Row) Perry, James, Lonnie Moose, Cora       David and Sarah's daughter, Sallie Fulbright, drowned in an accident on April 28, 1907 in the Catawba River which also claimed the life of Eliza Jane Goble.  These girls were first cousins.  Sarah Fulp Fulbright was a mid-wife and dresser of the dead.  She lovingly had to lay out both girls for their funerals.  Sallie Fulbright & Eliza Jane Goble were buried at Sharon Lutheran Church in Iredell County, NC. Fulbright May 30, 1889 - April 28, 1907 "Asleep in Jesus, as for me, May such a blissful refuge be, Securely shall my ashes lie, and wait the summons from on high, A loved one gone but not forgotten."       The 1910 Census shows David James & Sarah still living in the Shiloh Township of Iredell County, NC.  David's age was 54 and Sarah was 52.  There were seven children living with the family: Odie (Odie Jane, age 18), Nora (Nora Estelle, age 16), Garland (Garland Rudolph, age 13), Walter (Walter Brian, age 11), Benjamin (appears to be James Vanderford "Benjamin", age 8), Noell (Noel Baxter, age 6) and Zeva C. (age 3).   Most interesting is the fact that David James & Sarah had two additional sons since the 1900 Census (Noel and Zeva), yet the 1910 Census states that she only had 11 children with one deceased (Sallie Clara).  It appears that in actuality that David James & Sarah would have had 12 children.   Daughter Arabella "Oravell" Fulbright Moose was living nearby with her 5 children (Ruthie Mae Moose, Reba Sarah Moose, Eula Isabell Moose, Mary Inez Moose and William Colan Moose).  Arabella's husband, Lonnie Moose, had died 30 Jul 1909.  Arabella married John Baxter Bostian on 23 Feb 1914.   1910 Iredell County Census   Name Relation Sex Race Age S M/W Yrs. Fulbright.  He died at the age of 34 from a gunshot wound to the stomach and spinal chord.  The death was listed as homicide and it took place "on the street" in Statesville, NC. The cause of death was listed as "Pulmonary fibrosis" - a respiratory disease in which scars are formed in the lung tissues, leading to serious breathing problems. His wife, Cordia, died 10 Oct 1977 in Catawba County, NC.       Noel Baxter Fulbright     Noel Baxter Fulbright died 11 Nov 1968 at the age of 66.  The Death Certificate lists his date of birth as 02 Nov 1902 and his spouse as Euphia Sherrill.  It also lists his father as David James Fulbright and mother as Sara Jane Fulp.  The cause of death was "Cardiac arrest" (heart attack).  He was also suffering from diabetes.   Noel Baxter Fulbright's Death Certificate       Garland Rudolph Fulbright     Garland Rudolph Fulbright died 17 May 1970 at the age of 74.  The Death Certificate list his date of birth as 19 Aug 1895 and his spouse as Genevia Drum.  His father is listed as David Fulbright.   Garland Rudolph Fulbright's Death Certificate       Walter Bryan Fulbright     Walter Bryan Fulbright died 19 Nov 1970 at the age of 73.  According to the Death Certificate, Walter was born 30 Oct 1897 to David J.
