James Clarence Fink

Born: Mar 1858

Died: 01 Nov 1937

James Clarence Fink was the first child born to Moses David Fink (1836) and Louiza Angeline Cline.  James was born Mar 1858.

There's a bit of a mystery surrounding James Clarence Fink.

The 1860 District South of the Yadkin Census for Iredell County shows James' father, Moses, was 24 years old and living at home with his parents and siblings.

By 1870, Moses had married Louiza Angeline Cline and living in the Scotch Irish Township of Rowan County with a Salisbury, NC, Post Office.  They had two children, James B. (actually James Clarence) and Henry A. Fink.  If James was born in 1858, was Moses his father, or was his father from a previous marriage for Louiza?

By 1880, Moses and Louiza had moved to the Shiloh Township of Iredell County, NC.  The Census lists Moses David's name as "M.D." and Louiza Angeline's name as "L.A."  Their son Henry A. Fink from the 1870 Census is listed as "H.A." with a last name of "Morrison".  Henry, age 20, is also listed as a step-son.

That seems to suggest that even though James Clarence and Henry A. went by the name of "Fink", they could have actually been "Morrisons".

The 1900 Census shows James Clarence and Katherine (Catherine) living in #12 Township of Cabarrus County.  James & Katherine were both 42 and James' occupation was listed as a Book Keeper.  They had four sons living with them: Fletcher W. (age 19, who was still at school), Walter (age 17, who was working at a Cotton Mill as a "Roller"), Linwood (age 10) and Eugene (age 8).

By 1910, three of James & Katherine's sons were no longer in the home.  The Census indicates that there were only 3 children "living" - meaning one of the boys had died since 1900.  Eugene, age 17, was still living at home but was working as a Book Keeper (just like his father).  The family home also included two boarders: Bessie & Effie Bangle (ages 26 and 23).  James Clarence's age was listed as 52 and Katherine was 51.

By 1920, James Clarence and Katherine were living in the city of Concord in Cabarrus County.  James was 72 and Kate was 71.  James Clarence was still working - as a Cashier at an Oil Mill.  Their home value was $8000.

James Clarence Fink died 01 Nov 1937.  His death certificate indicates that he was widowed, indicating that Katherine had died between 1930 and 1930.  Cause of death was "myocarditis".    Myocarditis is inflammation of heart muscle. It resembles a heart attack but coronary arteries are not blocked.  His birth date is listed as March 1858 and occupation as Book Keeper.  His son, Eugene Fink, was the Informant, and Eugene was living in Mooresville, NC.
