By 1900 the Leslie and Smithdeal families were living on Cooks
Cross Roads in Cabarass County, NC. The 1900 Census listed John
W. Smithdeal as the "Head" of the family. James O. Leslie's
age was listed as "64" but if earlier Census records are
correct, he would have been 69. This Census says that James was
born in Mar 1836 and the Sophie was born in Aprl 1839. The
Census also shows that Sophia had given birth to "1"
