William Caldwell was a member of Mt. Ruhama Baptist Church for many years.  In the Mt. Ruhama records is this item: "Saturday, Jan. 21, 1888, Preaching today by the Pastor.  The funeral sermon of Bro. William Caldwell was preached.  Text, Colossians 3:4.  Bro. Caldwell was a Deacon in our church for a number of years.  He was faithful in attendance at church meetings until the last few years of his life, he became so enfeebled that he could not get about.  After the sermon, the body of the deceased was laid to rest in the grave.  Many relatives and friends were present.

Henderson Caldwell served in the Civil War in Company E, 32 NC Regiment Infantry.  He volunteered on 31 Mar 1863 at the age of 30.  He deserted 04 Jun 1863 at Hamilton's Crossing, Virginia, and on 17 Jun he was admitted to C.S.A General Hospital, Charlottesville, Virginia, with bebilitus.  From 31 Dec 1863 to 01 Nov 1964 he was absent from roll calls but rejoined from desertion and served light duty because of a surgical certificate.

William C. Caldwell: This man, like his brother, John David Caldwell, was assigned to the wrong Company E by mistake after enlisting in Newton, North Carolina on 01 Oct 1863.  He was then ordered to report to the 4th Regiment, N.C. Troops on 05 Oct 1863.

Like three of his brothers, Levi J. Caldwell served in the Civil War.  He was conscripted at Newton, North Carolina, on 25 Sep 1862, at the age of 20 years.  He was assigned to Company E, 32nd Regiment.  On 10 May 1864, he was captured at Wilderness, Virginia, in the same battle that his first cousin, John J. Caldwell, was captured.  He, too, was transferred to Belle Plain, Virginia on 18 May 1864.  He left Belle Plain on 03 Aug 1864 and arrived in Elmira, New York, on 14 Oct 1864.  He was exchanged on 29 Oct 1864.
