Carolyn and I, along with friends Duke & Myrl
Peeler, enjoyed a 6-day vacation to Las Vegas, Nevada, on 12 -
17 June, 2006. |
|
One of our main reasons for going to Las Vegas was to see
several Cirque Du Soleil Shows as well as The Star Trek
Experience. We saw our first show at Downtown Disney in Orlando
years ago and continued to attend Cirque shows when they came to
North Carolina. There are several Cirque shows in Las Vegas and
most are for the entire family - but there are also some
"mature" shows in Vegas. |

|
Cirque du
Soleil - "KA" - MGM Grand |
|
"KA" was my favorite of the two Cirque du
Soleil shows we saw in Las Vegas. |
|
The Cirque theater for "KA" is located in the MGM Grand |
 |
|
If you've never seen a Cirque du Soleil show,
it's kind of hard to describe why they are always so unique,
mind-blowing and entertaining. Cirque du Soleil is the largest
theatrical producer in the world and each show is a combination
of circus styles from around the world with its own central
theme and storyline. Shows employ continuous live music with
performers rather than stagehands changing the props. Even
though there may be a main act that you're watching during the
show, there are also numerous smaller acts occurring around the
theatre at the same time. There are "NO" bad seats at a Cirque
show and it's always possible you just might have an unexpected
part in the show. If you've never seen a Cirque du Soliel
production, I'd highly recommend that you attend one if you ever
have the opportunity. Prices for tickets may seem high, but you
definitely get your money's worth from the entertainment you
receive. There are always Programs and other Cirque merchandise
available after the show. |
|
"Ka" describes the story as "the coming of
age of a young man and a young woman through their encounters
with love, conflict and the duality of ""Ka", the fire
that can unite or separate, destroy or illuminate. In its
review, the Los Angeles Times stated it "may well be the most
lavish production in the history of Western theater. |
|
The "Ka" theatre scaffolding played an important part in the
show.
The show even included a stage that raised, lowered, and would
even pivot 90 degrees. |
|
|
Unfortunately, since you're not allowed to take photos during
the show, I don't have any that I can share. BUT I would
recommend doing a Google search for "Cirque KA" for a look into
the action, makeup and costumes that you come to expect from
Cirque du Soleil or

Cirque du Soleil - "O" -
Bellagio |
|
Like "Ka", the Cirque du Soleil show "O" was
well worth the price we paid for tickets. The theatre was
located at the Bellagio. Like all other Cirque productions,
there was pre-show entertainment. "O" was a water-themed show.
The stage would actually rise from and ascent into the water.
Considering the amazing fountains at the Bellagio, the water
theme of "O" was a perfect match. |

|
 |
|
"O", whose name is pronounced the same way as eau, the
French word for "water", takes place in, around and above a
1.5-million-US-gallon pool of water, featuring water acts such
as synchronized swimming as well as aerial and ground acts. "O"
was inspired by the "infinity and elegance of water's pure
form," which pays tribute to the beauty of the theater. The cast
consists of 85 performers: international acrobats, synchronized
swimmers, and divers - some of them being former Olympic
athletes. |
|
 |
|
Since Cirque allowed no photography during the show, I have no
photos to share. To check out "O" in photos,

The
Star Trek Experience -
Hilton |
|
I've been a "Star Trek" fan ever since I was
a 13-year-old boy. "Star Trek" and "Lost In Space" were the two
TV shows in the mid-1960s that helped mold me into a life-long
science-fiction fan. As an adult, I had heard about "The Star
Trek Experience" at the Hilton, so when we planned the trip to
Las Vegas, I knew we'd have to see it. |

The Star Trek Experience was a themed
attraction based on the "Star Trek" entertainment franchise.
After purchasing your ticket, you walked through a museum that
included numerous items from Star Trek history. It also
featured several video display devices and a timeline of Star
Trek events. There were displays for each of the major alien
races, which included the Borg, Klingons, and Ferengi. |
