Samuel Denniston Jr.     Born: 1820, Grand Island, Erie County, New York Died: 30 Jul 1885, Eckford, Calhoun County, Michigan  (I have used Samuel's birth year from his grave marker)   Records seem to indicate that Samuel Denniston, Jr., was the  last child born to Samuel Denniston, Sr. (1771-Aft.1854) and Margaret (Unknown).  Samuel Jr. was born in 1820 in Grand Island, Erie County, New York.  (I used the 1820 birth date from Samuel Jr.'s grave marker)     Samuel Jr. married Elizabeth Rameaux on 19 Oct 1845.  Their marriage produced one one child - a daughter.   Children of Samuel Denniston, Jr. & Elizabeth Rameaux Name Birth Death Spouse Chauncey "Chancy" Denniston May 1846 Wayne Co, MI 27 May 1865 Davidson Co, TN       Records indicate that Elizabeth Rameaux Denniston died in 1846.  Cause of death is unknown but since it was the same year as Chancy's birth, Elizabeth could have died in childbirth.     Samuel Jr. married again - this time to Archangel Rosanna Fenton (called Rosanna) on 10 Nov 1847 in Detroit, Wayne Co, Michigan.  Archangel was born Jan 1829 in Detroit, Wayne, Michigan to Warren M. Several of their children have similar names to their deceased siblings - which wasn't uncommon in that day.       The 1850 Census shows Samuel and Rosanna Denniston living in the Clarendon Township of Calhoun County, Michigan.  He is 28 and she is 20.  His son, Chancy, (from his first marriage to Elizabeth Rameaux) is 4 years old his living with his father.  Samuel and Rosanna have a son, William, who is 1 year old.  The Census shows that Samuel was born in New York but the 1860 Census shows that he was born in Ireland.  Rosanna, Chancy and William were born in Michigan.   1850 Census for Clarendon Township, Calhoun Co, Michigan   House No. Family No. Name Age Sex Occupation Birth First Last 162 166 Samuel Dennison *28 M Laborer New York     Rosullm " 20 F   Michigan     Chancy " 4 M   "     William " 1 M   " * Even though this Census indicates that Samuel Jr. was 28 years old, if he was born in 1820 he would have been about 30       The 1850 Agrigultural Census for Sameul Denniston shows that has minimal livestock on his farm: 3 cows, 2 oxen and 1 swing.  Value of his live stock is $50.   1850 Agricultural Census for Clarendon Township, Calhoun Co, Michigan   Name Live Stock, June 1st, 1850 Milk Cows Working Oxen Swine Value of Live Stock Samuel Denniston 3 2 1 50       The 1860 Census shows Samuel Denniston, Jr. living in Eckford, Calhoun County, Michigan.  His age is listed as 43 (which would have been correct) and he was working as a farmer.  His Real Estate Value is $400 and his Personal Estate Value is $200.  This Census shows that he was born in IRELAND but we know that he was born in New York. (His father, Samuel Denniston was indeed born in Ireland).  Samuel's wife is listed as "Susanna" (born in NY) but this, too, seems to be incorrect if he is indeed still married to Rosanna in 1870 (born in Michigan). The Census also says that he was "# 11, Married within the Year" - which has to be incorrect since Rosanna was once again listed on the 1870 Census.    Samuel had six children living with him: Chauncy/Chancy (age 14), Allice/Alice (age 10), John M. (age 8), Warren S. " 6 M       Mich       Ashel " 4 M       Mich       Mary " 2 F       Mich         The 1870 Census shows Samuel & Rosannah Dennison (Denniston) living in the Eckford Township of Calhoun County, Michigan.  Samuel's age is listed as 48 and Rosannah is listed as 39. Daughter Alice has married Charles Bradshaw and the couple are living nearby Samuel and Rosanna on a farm that is valued at $300 (although the Census lists them as being the same house and same family).  The children still living at home are: John (age 18), Warren (age 15), Asahel (age 13) and Mary (age 7).  This Census does confirm that Samuel was born in New York but his father is "Foreign Born".  Samuel's Real Estate Value has increase to $2900 in 10 years and his Personal Estate is valued at $300.   1870 Census for Eckford Township, Calhoun Co, Michigan   House No. Family No. Name Age Sex Race Occup.
