Walt Disney
World Resorts 1996, 1997, 2000 & 2015 |
|
|
 |
If you ever go to Disney World and don't stay at one of their
resorts, you're making a big mistake - especially if you have
kids. There are over 30 resorts to choose from and they are
themed to make you stay more enjoyable. We stayed at Dixie
Landings in 1996 & 2015, at All-Star-Sports in 1997, and at
All-Star-Movies in 2000. Other themed Disney resorts include:
All-Star-Movies, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Art of Animation Resort,
Caribbean Beach Resort, Contemporary Resort, Coronado Springs
Resort, Polynesian Village Resort, Star Wars: Galactic
Starcruiser and many more. |
|
We went to Disney World four times during our marriage/life
time. On our first triep, I/Curtis was 42, Carolyn 43, Beth was
19 and Philip was 17. We had planned the trip around
Spring-break from school for Philip, but due to snow that
winter, Spring-break was dropped, so Philip (and the rest of the
family) went on Spring-break while school and work continued
back home. |
|
Our first and third trips were cruise and Disney World
combination trips; the cruise was 4 days and our stay at Disney
World was three days. On our first trip, we cruised on The Big
Red Boat. Our second cruise as on the Disney Wonder. |
|
Our first trip to Disney World was on 15 March 1996; Our second
trip was 10 October 1997; and our third thrip was 09 March 2000.
Our last trip to Disney was in November 2015. |

DISNEY's
DIXIE LANDINGS |
|
|
Disney's Port Orleans Resort Riversade was designed to reflect
the antebellum south along the Mississippi River. The resort
opened in 02 Feb 1992 as DISNEY'S DIXIE LANDINGS RESORT,
initially with rooms located in its Alligator Bayou section.
Shortly afterwards the Magnolia Bend section was opened. We
stayed in the Alligator Bayou section of Disie Landing.
Alligator Bayou has 1,024 guest rooms in 16 buildings styled as
rustic, weathered lodges, with 64 rooms per lodge. It was
considered a mid-range resort, as far as cost was concerned. |

 |
|
This was the only trip we ever did that included a rental car
(red). When we arrive in Florida, we went across the street to
the car rental and picked up our car that we used to drive to
Port Canavaral for The Big Red Boat cruise. When we got back
from the cruise, we drove to Disney World. When the Disney part
of the vacation was over, we drove the car back to the car
rental, crossed the street to the airport, and took our plane
back home. |
|
Beth and Philip, and the red car, outside of the
building were we lodged in 1996 |
 |
|
Our room was 1510 and was located in Alligator Bayou. It turned
out to be a very good location because it was close to the bus
terminal and the Colonel's Cotton Mill. |

|
There were several location at Dixie Landings where you could
eat. Our favorite was at the Colonel's Cotton mill. The food was
good and less expensive that eating in the parks. We ate as many
mals as we cook at the Mill. The cheese calzones were one of our
favorites. |

When you stay at one of the resorts on Disney property, you're
provided free transportation to and from all the different
resorts, parks, and attractions. Buses run every 15-20 minutes
and often the bus drivers can be as entertaing as some of the
acts in the parks. |

ALL-STAR-SPORTS is a resort at Disney World. It is one of five

|
We stayed at All-Star-Sports during our 2000 trip to Disney. The
date of this trip was 09 March 2000.
Our flight from
Charlotte to Orlando was really bad. There was rain and a lot of
turbulence. The plane would suddenly "drop" and people actually
screamed. That was the closest I ever came to throwing-up on an
airplane. |

The only time we ever visited the POLYNESIAN RESORT was in 1996
when we had paid to participate in a Luau. We arrived at Luau
Cove at 9:15 p.m. and received shell leis and then waited for
dinner. A cast member explained Polynesian musical instruments
such as the dourd, bamboo sticks, nose flute and feathered
shakers. |
|
 |
|
At 9:30 p.m., we were seated at Table 49. Dinner included: Fruit
(water melon, orange slices, honey dew melon, cantaloupe), Sweet
Rolls, BBQ Chicken, BBQ Ribs, Rice, Yams, Corn on the Cob,
Broccoli and Cauliflower, Ice Cream Sundaes (with vanilla ice
cream & chocolate syrup, strawberries and pineapple), Sprite and
Coke. The cost of the Luau was $140 for the entire family - not
including gratuities. |
|
 |
|
The show featured Native dancers from Hawaii, New Zealand,
Tahiti, and other Polynesian Islands. Dances included the hula,
with the t-leaf skirt and the fire dance. We didn't have the
best seats at the show. It was difficult to get good photos. |
