According to the 1910 Miller's Township, Alexander County, NC
Census, Nessie, age 21, worked as a servant on the farm of Jacob
and Fannie Goble. Nessie and Martin, age 20, became
romantically involved and she became pregnant. Martin &
Nessie were married 25 Apr 1910, and Lewis Hubert was born 23
Jul 1910. The census also says that Nessie had no children
- she actually had two (May & Ethel) at this time. |

Tragedy struck the young family in 1911 when Lewis Hubert died
18 Jan 1911. Lewis was just under 6 months old. He was
buried at Sharon Lutheran Church in Iredell County, NC. |
