Richard Washington was born 05 Sept 1660 in Westmoreland County, Virginia.  He was the son of John Washington (b. 1631) and Mary Flood Blunt Ford Washington
 
  Richard's father, John, was the first of our Washington lineage to arrive in the "Colonies".  John arrived in Surry County, Virginia, from Barbadoes, as a merchant, and married Mary Flood Blunt Ford.  The marriage between John and Mary was his first, but her third.  She had first married Richard Blunt.  Upon Richard's death, she married Charles Ford and upon Charles' death, she married John Washington.  
 
 
Richard Washington married Elizabeth Jordan, the daughter of Arthur Jordan and Elizabeth Bavin (widow of Richard Bavin). Elizabeth was born 12 Apr 1660 in Surry, Prince George, VA.
 
Richard and Elizabeth Jordan Washington had at least twelve children.

Richard was a prominent landowner as well as a vestryman of Southward Parish in Surry County, Virginia.
 
 
Richard died between Nov 1724 and May 1725.  His will, dated 09 Nov 1724 and probated 19 May 1725, mentions his sons, George, Richard, William, John, Thomas, James, and Arthur Washington, as well as daughters Elizabeth Lanier, Priscilla Washington, Ann Washington, Faith Barker and Mary Hart - and several grandsons. 
 
He had amassed an impressive amount of property with over 1200 acres, plus a plantation, livestock and a number of slaves.
 
 

Richard Washington's Will

 
To son George Washington   300 acres on west side of Nottoway Swamp below John Barnes, one negro and livestock for his life
To son Richard Washington   All land he hath in his possession, his full share of estate.
To son John Washington   150 acres at Pokerfield Branch, and stock in possession, and two negros.
To son Thomas Washington   The plantation where I now live at Blackwater Swamp at footbridge to widow Evans to pocoson to mill branch - not to sell or lease for 7 years - and two negros, and he (is) to buy a negro for Ann Washington. Also 6 leather chairs, horses, arms, etc.
To son James Washington   165 acres at Seacock Swamp, not to mortgage or sell for seven years.
To son Arthur Washington   All the remainder below Thomas Washington on Blackwater 300 acres - not to sell or lease for seven years. Also 200 acres between George Washington and Flaggy Run.  6 leather chairs and tables, chest, etc also three negros.
To dau Elizabeth Lanier   200 acres on the west side of Mill Branch where she now lives.
To son-in-law Sampson Lanier   200 acres in Isle of Wight Co, VA on the east side of Flaggy Run to Robert Rix's line
To dau Priscilla Washington   Negroes horses, goods, etc.
To dau Ann Washington   Household goods, etc.
To dau Faith Barker   Sheep, etc.
To dau Mary Hart   One negro
To grandson Thomas Lanier   One negro
To grandsons Arthur, Sampson,

To grandson John Washington   250 acres in Isle of Wight Co, VA at the mouth of Nottoway River.
