Savanna   Born: 2000, Hickory, NC     2008           March 2008     Purim - The Feast of Esther   Alexandria's maternal grandparents, Curtis & Carolyn Loftin, have been observing the Biblical Festival ever since Beth and Philip lived at home.  When grandchildren came along, they enjoyed the experience, too.   Brad, Beth, Savanna and Alexandria joined Curtis & Carolyn (and all of Beit Yeshua) on 21 March 2008 as they celebrated the Feast of Purim.  Because GOD hid Esther in the King's palace, it's customary to wear costumes on Purim.   Esther 9:26-27 26 Wherefore they called these days Purim after the name of Pur... 27 The Jews ordained,a nd took upon them, and upon their seed, and upon all such as joined themselves unto them, so as it should not fail, that they would keep these two days according to their writing and according to their appointed time every year.   Savanna & Alexandria were dressed in their dance costumes (Left to Right) Duke & Mryl Peeler, Laura Cromer, Kirk Herbertson, Doug & Lynda Williams, Carolyn Loftin, Susan & Paul Myles, Savanna & Alexandria   Savanna  & Alexandria watch as Curtis calls out the impromptu cast   Curtis costumes Esther as she is called up from the audience     2008 Purim Cast   Stacy Travis: King's Attendant, Andy Melnyk: Haman, Jane Melnyk: Zeresh, Chuck Anthony: King Ahashuerus, Janice Anthony: Esther, Allison Scott: Queesn Vashti, Bill Shupp: Haman & Melba Finley: Advisor     Groggers and other noise makers are used to drown out the name of the evil Haman         April 2008     Pesach/Passover   The Seese Family joined Curtis & Carolyn on 25 April 2008 as Beit Yeshua celebrated the Biblical Feast of Pesach/Passover.   Leviticus 23:4-7 4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons. 5 In the fourteenth day of the first month (Abib or Nisan - March or April) at even (evening) is the LORD's Passover. 6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the Feast of Unleavened Bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread. 7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.     1 Corinthians 5:7-8 7 ... Christ our Passover is sacrificed for us:  8 Therefore let us keep the feast ...   Guests begin to arrive - including Brad, Beth, Savanna & Alexandria   Maternal grandfather, Curtis Loftin led the group   Brad, Beth, Savanna & Ali chat with Sandy Baucom Curtis taught 8th Grade with Sandy for 16 years Sandy became Savanna's teacher in 2013 - 2014 at River Bend Middle School     Waiting for the Seder to begin   Curtis Loftin & Doug Williams led the Passover Seder   Handwasing is one of the first parts of the Seder     Elements on the Seder plate are explained: a bone (usually the shank bone of a lamb), an egg, parsley, horseradish and a sweet apple mixture called kharoset     As each of the 10 plagues are repeated, a drop of grape juice is dropped from a finger onto a napkin   Savanna asked the 4 Questions at the 2008 Passover Seder             May 2008     Vintage Studio Photos   Beth had this vintage photo of Savanna and Alexandria taken on 10 May 2008.   Always a smile from both of the girls         July 2008     S. C. Beach Trip   The Loftin & Seese families (Curtis & Carolyn, Philip & Leslie, Brad & Beth, Savanna & Alexandria) planned a family vacation to North Myrtle Beach, SC, for 26 July 2008.  The families lodged at Xanadu II for the 7-day vacation.   All packed and ready to go   View of the beach from our balcony at Xanadu   Beth and Savanna do some unpacking   Savanna does a little cleaning in the kitchen   A Full Day on the Beach   Time to head down to the beach   So many toys with which to play in the sand - Alexandria loves it   Three umbrellas for this group That's Xanadu II directly behind Beth, Philip & Leslie   Beth and Savanna were the first to get in the water - but not too deep     Alexandria joins Beth and Savanna   Beth checks out the beach toys with Ali and Savanna   Savanna brings a little ocean water to help Ali out   Philip, Leslie & Beth soak up the sun - but it's the shade that Brad enjoys     Alexandria and Savanna eventually move down to the edge of the water           An Evening Walk on the Beach   An after dinner walk along the beach - Poppi & Nonni's favorite part of the trip     The girls even had a new friend to go along with them on their beach walk     Looking for shells is always lots of fun   Mother and Daughter     Going Out To Eat   No trip to the beach would be complete without going out to eat fish     Ordering, then waiting for the food to arrive   Aunt Leslie & Uncle Philip   Back at Xanadu II         Beach Photos   Poppi decides to take the girls out on the beach for some photos         Beth takes a photo of Poppi with Ali     Going Out To Eat   After a quick bite to eat at Chick-Fil-A Poppi & Nonni get their photo taken with the girls   Beth with Savanna and Alexandria   Philip & Leslie   Let's Build-A-Bear   The family went out for dinner, but afterwards stopped at Broadway At The Beach giving the girls an opportunity to choose a toy from Build-A-Bear there     The first thing the girls had to do was choose their bear but they did stop long enough to take a peak at some of the bear clothing   The girls even chose how much stuffing for their bear Next it was time for an imaginary bath for the new bear      A name had to be selected and the bear registered   Next it was time to pick something for the stuffed bear to wear   Time to dress the new bear      Nonni offers Alexandria a little help   THE BEAR PROMISE My Bear is Special I Brought it to Life I Chose It I Stuffed It I am Taking it Home Best Friends Are Forever So I Promise Right Now To Make My Bear My #1 Pal   Finally, Mom has to pay for everything!   Next, it was time for some ice-cream No beach trip would be complete without it   Another Day in the Sun   Beth and the girls were the first to venture into the water     From the look on Beth's face, you can tell that the morning water temperature was "cool"         Ali especially enjoyed playing in the sand at the edge of the water     Savanna, however, enjoyed floating in the water with the boogie board     Brad (with Ali), Philip and Leslie ventured into the water, too That's Savanna's head on the right side of the photo       Poppi was usually taking photos but this was one time he got his photo taken     One Last Day On The Beach   Only the younger group (Brad & Beth, Savanna & Ali, Philip & Leslie) went out on the beach the last day of the beach vacation       Poppi & Nonni stayed in the cool room       One Last Look   One last look at the beach before we all head home         September 2008     Yom Teruah - The Feast of Trumpets   The Seese Family joined Curtis & Carolyn on 26 September 2008 as Beit Yeshua celebrated Yom Teruah (The Feast of Trumpets).  Guests were encouraged to dress in white, symbolizing the spotless Bride of Messiah Yeshua/Jesus.   Leviticus 23:23 23 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month (Tishri - September or October), in the first day of the month, shall ye have a Sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets (shofarim or ram's horns), an holy convocation.     A time of Praise & Worship - Brad, Beth, Savanna & Ali sit on the front row     During Praise & Worship, Curtis led Israeli Folk Dance for those wanting to participate Beth, Savanna and Alexandria joined the group of dancers   A drama titled "The Ancient Jewish Wedding" was the main activity for the evening   The Bible is a marriage covenant.  Both the Tanach (the Old Testament) and the Brit Hadashah (the New Testament) describe how God through Messiah Yeshua/Jesus, the Bridegroom, is in the process of marrying His bride.  Yeshua’s first miracle - turning water into wine - took place at a wedding in Cana of Galilee.  There are many parallels between the ancient Jewish Wedding and the marriage between Messiah Yeshua and his Bride.  Yeshua even called Himself the bridegroom.   For more information and additional photos, CLICK HERE   The Bridegroom and Bride under the Chuppa, or Wedding Canopy (Left to Right) Myrl Peeler, Barry Finley, Chuck Anthony, Doug Williams, Jeremy & Jeanne Eldridge     The Jewish ceremony of Tashlich during Yom Teruah occurs when participants walk to a lake and cast scraps of bread or rocks (symbolic of the individual's sins) into the water.  It's a beautiful object lesson to share repentance and forgiveness with children - and adults.   An artificial lake was created in order to share Tashlich with the group     The evening concluded with Communion     ... and a time of food and fellowship         October 2008     Alexandria's 6th Birthday   On 11 October 2008 the family and friends of Alexandria gathered at her house in Newton to wish her a "Happy Birthday" and to celebrate with a party in her honor.   Beth waits for everyone to arrive   Because of her love for horses, the 2008 cake had horses on it   (Left) Paternal Grandmother, JoAnn Denniston Seese (Right) Maternal Great-Grandmother Willie Goble Loftin     Savanna with Uncle Philip and Aunt Leslie   (Apologies from Poppi for the 2008 birthday photos - most of which turned out blurry)       The Feast of Sukkot   Alexandria's maternal grandparents, Curtis & Carolyn Loftin, have been observing the Biblical Festival ever since Beth and Philip lived at home.  When grandchildren came along, they enjoyed the experience, too.   Leviticus 23:33 - 43 33 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, 34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, the fifteenth day of the seventh month (September or October) shall be the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot in Hebrew) for seven days unto the LORD. 41 And ye shall keep it a Feast unto the LORD seven days in the year.  It shall be a statute forever in your generations: you shall celebrate it in the seventh month (Nissan in Hebrew).  42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites shall dwell in booths:  43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.   The Biblical Festivals paint a beautiful picture of Yeshua/Jesus' life.  He died on the Feast of Passover, was in the grave on the Feast of Unleavened Bread, and arose from the dead on the Feast of First Fruits. The Holy Spirit was given on the Feast of Pentecost.  The Fall Festivals will be fulfilled when Yeshua/Jesus returns - The Feast of Trumpets (or the Catching away of His Bride), the Day of Atonement (when Yeshua/Jesus returns and judges the Earth), and the Feast of Sukkot (which symbolized the 1000 year reign of Messiah Yeshua/Jesus when He will "tabernacle" with Believers).   Every Autumn, Curtis & Carolyn build a sukka/booth in their back yard Sukkot provides a wonderful opportunity to share about the provision of God     Curtis & Carolyn share a Sunday afternoon meal with the Seese family in the sukka     The sukka should have 3 walls - with the branches of various trees on top Even though the branches are on top of the sukka, you should still be able to see the stars   The Feast of Sukkot begins on Nissan 15 (September or October) and lasts for 7 days There is always a full moon as the Biblical festival begins         December 2008     Savanna's Water Baptism   Savanna invited Jesus into her heart during Children's Church at Covenant Bible Church in 2008.  On 14 Dec 2008, Pastor Mike Divine baptized Savanna.       Savanna holds her nose - Under she goes and then back up           Christmas Day   Brad, Beth, Savanna and Alexandria (as well as Uncle Philip & Aunt Leslie) went over to Curtis & Carolyn's house for Christmas lunch.  Lunch time is usually 11:30 a.m.   Savanna tells Nonni what she found under the Christmas tree    Savanna & Alexandria, wearing their Christmas dresses, ate lunch at the bar   Christmas is always special when you share it with family      Uncle Philip & Aunt Leslie got married in 2001 - but still didn't have children in 2008 Poppi & Nonni gave them a gentle "hint" that they wanted grandchildren   Savanna & Alexandria start opening their Christmas gifts   Savanna & Alexandria are pleased with all the pretty dresses from Poppi & Nonni        Additional dresses for Savanna     And even several matching dresses     There was lots of other fun stuff, too   Great-Granny Willie eventually arrived and there were more clothes from her       Thank You Great Granny       Studio Photos at Philip & Leslie's House   On 25 December 2008, after lunch and opening Christmas presents, the family all went over to Philip & Leslie's house for some family studio photos.  We were pleased to have Great-Granny Willie Goble Loftin in these, also.   (Top Row) Brad & Beth, Leslie & Philip (Bottom Row) Savanna, Carolyn, Willie, Curtis, Alexandria   Philip got some good family photos of Brad, Beth and the girls, too     The family changes clothes and gets another good family photo       Hanukkah - The Feast of Lights   In 2008, the Biblical Feast of Hanukkah occurred at the same time as Christmas.  On 25 December 2008, the 5th day of Hanukkah, Savanna & Alexandria help Poppi light the Hanukkiah.   Savanna lights the first few candles ...   ... and Alexandria lights the rest of them   Poppi shares the Hanukkah story           Check Out All of The Pages For Savanna:     Savanna 2000 Savanna 2001 Savanna 2002 Savanna 2003 Savanna 2004 Savanna 2005 Savanna 2006 Savanna 2007 Savanna 2008 Savanna 2009 Savanna 2010 Savanna 2011 Savanna 2012 Savanna 2013 Savanna 2014 Savanna 2015 Savanna 2016   Dance 2003 - 2012         DEDICATION   Savanna, You were the "first" - the first granddaughter - and I was (and still am) so proud of you.  Spending time with you always bring joy and happiness into my life.  You have no idea just how special you are.  May you always follow the LORD and seek His direction for every choice in your life.  May you always have a close and personal relationship with Yeshua/Jesus - He's the only true source of joy and happiness.  I love you and always will.  Poppi
