John Henry "Pinkney" Johnson II

Born: 12 Apr 1865
Died:  09 Jun 1889

John Henry "Pinkney" Johnson II was born on 12 Apr 1865 to Pinkney C. Johnson and Lavina C. Sherrill.  Henry's father, Pinkney, died as a result of injuries sustained in the Civil War.  Henry was born 9 days after his father's death.

According to the 1870 Census, Henry was 6-years-old and living with his mother in Iredell County.

------- Henry 6 M W

The 1880 Iredell County Census lists Henry's age as 15.  This Census lists Henry's name as John H. and also tells us that he was crippled, which we know to be true.

Several of Levina's (Viney or L. C.) daughters have moved back home with her.  M. G. Johnson is Margaret G. Johnson.  M. L. E. Johnson is Louisa Eveline Johnson.  In 1870, at the age of 11, Eleline was living with J. A. and Hannah Watts.  Levina's daughter Julia is also still living at home.

Vickie/Victoria is still living with the family.  In the 1870 Census she was listed as White.  This 1880 Census lists her race as Mulatto.  There is still no clue who her father was, and was Lavina really her "mother" or her "grandmother"?

Viney had 4 grandchildren living at the family home, too.  They were Joseph, Nora, G.H. and William F.  All four were listed as Johnsons, but there was no indication as to who their mother was.

John Henry Johnson married Nancy Caroline Leslie on 03 Sep 1885 in Iredell County.  Nancy was 7-years older than Henry.

John Henry Pinkney Johnson and Nancy Caroline Leslie had two children.
