William Brown Hocutt died 22 Dec 1823 in Johnston County, NC, but there is no clear indication when his second wife, Creacy, died.

An inventory of his estate of William Brown Hocutt was made on 22 Dec 1823.  Benjamin Hocutt and Joel Ellington were administrators.  Benjamin, a close neighbor and a son of Edward Hocutt the brother of William Hocutt (b. 1840), was William Brown Hocutt's first cousin.

At his death, his children were left as orphans, and they were put under the guardianship of different individuals.  According to county records, Matthew Wilder was guardian for Henderson (also called "Hinson"), Willey and Lucretia in 1830; Joel Ellington was guardian for Sally and Sarah in 1830 and 1831; and Benjamin Hocutt was guardian for Zachariah/Zachary in 1831.
