David married Salina/Selena Elizabeth Sigmon about 1840/1843.  Selena was born about 1820 in Lincoln County, NC.

The 1850 Census shows David and his wife Salina living in Catawba County with four children (Manuel, age 7; Allen, age 5; Jane, age 2, and Martha, age 4/12 or 4 months old) and David Sigmon, age 21, who appears to be Selena's brother.  The Census shows that David, Salina and all of their children were born in Catawba County, but this is incorrect.  Catawba County was formed from the northern part of Lincoln County in 1942, so this means that even though they may have been living in the same area where they were born, it would have been Lincoln County at the time of their birth.  Since all of the children were born after 1942, they would have indeed been born in Catawba County.

By 1860 David and Salina were living in the Tomahawk Township of Searcy County in Arkansas.  Two of the younger girls were born in Missouri indicating that the family live there for several years between 1850 and 1860.  David and Salina's ages are both listed as 38.  From the Census, their children are listed as Immanuel (age 17), Allen (age 13), Jane (age 12), Martha Ann (age 10), Malinda (age 8), Emeline (age 6), Dovey (age 4) and Poppett (age 8 months).  Immanuel (Emanuel), Allen, Jane, Martha Ann, and Malinda were born in North Carolina.  Emeline and Dovey were born in Missouri, while the baby, Poppett, was born in Arkansas.

There is also a 25-year-old woman named Mary Dilliard living with the family with three of her children: Julia (age 8), Josephine (age 6), Elmira (age 4) and James F. Dilliard (age 1).

The children appear to be listed in two groups with the top group being David & Salina's children and the bottom four being Mary Dilliard's children.
