Elisha Eason

Born: About 1780
Died: About 18??

Elisha Eason was born about 1780 and was the son of John Eason.

Elisha married Edith Avera 09 June 1804 in Johnston County, NC.  Edith was the daughter of Henry Avera.  The Bondsman was Benjamin Eason and the Witness was R. Sanders.

Elisha and Edith's marriage produced at least 3 children.

The 1820 Census was enumerated on 07 Aug 1820 and finds Elisha Eason living in Johnston County, NC.  The Census indicated that Elisha and Edith had 3 children at the time the Census was enumerate - 2 boys and one girl.  No records have yet been found showing a daughter, but it is quite possible.  Son George Eason was not born until 1920 and could have been born after the Census date.

Column 13 on the 1820 Census should have had the heading "Foreigners Not Naturalized" but the Census-taker eliminated that column and listed "Number of Persons Engaged in Agriculture" in column 13 instead of column 14.  The "3" on this particular Census for the Eason family indicates that there were 3 members of the family who "engaged in agriculture" on the family farm.

The 1830 Census shows Elisha Eason living in Johnston County, NC - with (only) one other person.  There is one male in the family who is between 50 and 60 years old.  If Elisha was born in 1780, as is suspected, this would make and 50 years old and he would fit into this Census category.  There is one female listed on the Census who is also between 50 & 60 years old.  There is no indication why there are no children listed on the Census.  The two younger boys (Hardy and George) didn't marry until 1834 and 1846 respectively, so they should have still been living on the family farm.  The eldest son (Avera Eason) married in 1830 and was listed on a separate Johnston County, NC, Census listing.
