DISNEY/ MGM STUDIOS is one of the four theme parks at Disney World in Bay Lake, FL, near Orlando. The park opened in 1989 as the Disney-MGM Studios Park and was the third of the four them parks at Disney World. Spanning 135 acres, the park is dedicated to the imagined worlds from film, television, music, and theatre, drawing inspiration from the Golden Age of Hollywood. In 2008, the name of the park was changed to DISNEY'S HOLLYWOOD STUDIOS.

HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD

HOLLYWOOD BOULEVARD, inspired by the real street of the same name, serves as the park's main entrance and operates in the same vein as Main Street, U.S.A. at Magic Kingdom. It is lined with themed streetscape facades and venues selling Disney merchandise and park services. Live street entertainment and seasonal parades travel down the main street throughout the day.

There are lots of locations where you can take great photos while you're there.

GRAUMAN'S CHINESE THEATRE

At the far end of Hollywood Boulevard stands an exact replica of Grauman's Chinese Theatre. The theatre hosted "The Great Movie Ride", a dark ride that employed the use of Audio-Animatronic figures, practical sets, live actors, special effects, and projections to recreate iconic scenes from twelve classic films throughout motion picture history. To accurately represent a broad spectrum of cinema, Disney incorporated films from outside of its own library, mainly through its licensing agreement with MGM. The attraction debuted with the park opening on 01 May 1989 and closed on 13 AUG 2017.

BACKSTAGE STUDIO TOUR

We had an opportunity to take the BACKSTAGE STUDIO TOUR. It was a 30-minute ride behine the scenes of a working motion picture and TV studio where we had a look at props, costuming and the backlot. The tour included a perilous excursion through CATASTROPHE CANYON.

We had an opportunity to take a look IBEHIND THE SCENES of a Disney movie in 1996 when we visited SOUNDSTAGE 1, 2, 3 & 4. On STAGE # 1 we saw the sets where they were filming "Tarzan the Epic Adventure" starring Joe Lara. STAGE # 4 was a back stage demonstration with a Bette Midler film. In the movie, Bette plays a teacher who wins the NY lottery, but looses her ticket. Chasing it through the street, all the way to the subway, she finally looses it, only to have it returned by a friendly pigeon.

During our 2000 trip, we saw the sets for the "Mortal Combat" TV series.

CATASTROPHE CANYON

The tour included a perilous excursion through CATASTROPHE CANYON, where we learned how floods, fires and earthquakes are created. On this one, hope you're not sitting on the left side of the vehicle. It had a tanker truck that caught on fire and had thousands of gallons of water dumped on it and on us.

Watch out for that water!

STAR TOURS

The attraction sent guest on an excursion trip to Endor, while being caught in an altercation between the New Republic and an Imperial Remnant. The attraction closed in 2010 to allow conversion for its successor attraction, STAR TOURS - THE ADVENTURE CONTINUES. I did ride this ride, once, but am not a big fan of motion sumulation.
