Animal Kingdom

DISNEY'S ANIMAL KINGDOM is a zoological theme park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Bay Lake, Florida, near Orlando. Animal Kingdom is the largest theme park in the world, covering 580 acres. The park opened on Earth Day, 22 Apr 1998, and was the fourth theme park built at the resort. The park is dedicated and themed entirely around the natural environment and animal conservation, a philosophy once pioneered by Walt Disney himself.

Animal Kingdom is distinguished from the rest of the Disney World theme parks in that it features traditional attractions while also exhibiting hundreds of species of live animals. Due to these sensitive conditions, special designs and provisions were incorporated throughout the park to protect the animals' welfare. The park is the second-most visited at Disney World, behind Magic Kingdom.

1. TREE OF LIFE

The TREE OF LIFE is a 145-foot sculpture of a baobab tree and is located on Discovery Island, at Animal Kingdom, roughly in the center of the park. It has over 8,000 branches of different sizes and about 102,000 artificial leaves. It debuted when the attraction opened on 22 Apr 1998. Inspired by the original tree spoken of in the Bible, the Tree of Life features 325 carvings of existing and extinct animal species on its trunk and surrounding roots. The sculpture took 18 monts to create.

At the structure's interior base is a 428-seat theater that hosts "It's Tough to Be a Bug!", a 3-D film attraction based on the 1998 Disney/Pixar film "A Bug's Life". There is also a secret path that park-goers can walk up to take a closer look at the sculpture.

2. AFRICA

AFRICA is one of the original areas of the park. Set in the fictional East Africa Port Village of Harambe, this area contains several animal exhibits. Some snippets from Africa that were duplicated by the Disney Imagineers are a fortress that was found in Zanzibar and a water-stained crumbling old building that was found in Kenya. Harambe includes a "Hotel", Restaurants, An Outdoor Bar that has live entertainment and different marketplaces.

The village is the namesake of the Harambe Wildlife Preserve, the fictional home of Africa's main attraction, Kilimanjaro Safaris. Guests climb aboard an open-sided safari vehicle for an expedition to see African species in savanna, rivers and rocky hills The safari features okapis, greater kudus, saddle-billed storks, bongos, black rhinoceroses, Hippopotamuses, Pink-Backed Pelicans, Nile Crocodiles, Masai Giraffes, Mountain Zebras, Blue Wildebeests, Ankole Cattle, Sable Antelopes and African Bush Elephants.

On the adjacent Gorilla Falls Exploration Trail, visitors trek into the forest where animals such as Black-and-white Colobus, Monkeys, Gerenuks, Gorillas, Hippos, Kenyan Sand Boas, Kori Bustards, Zebras, Meerkats, Chipanzees, Naked Mole-Rats, Tarantulas, as well as where an aviary are located.

KILIMANJARO SAFARI

KILIMANJARO SAFARI is a safari attraction at Disney's Animal Kingdom. It simulates an open-side safari ride through the savanna of East Africa. The ride originally included a scripted portion where the safari truck - callsign "Simba-!" - would be contacted by a habitat warden and a scientist to hunt down poachers that had captured a mother elephant and her child. The poachers would have been captured at gunpoint by another cast member, a warden. This element of the attraction was eventually eliminated and replaced with scaring off the poachers after a pursuit.

African animals you might see on the safari: Saddle-Billed Stork, Sable Antelope, Greater Flamingo, Blue Wildebeest, Yellow-Billed Stork, Waterbuck, Plains Zebra, Black Rhinoceros, White Rinoceros, Hippopotamus, Nile Crocodile, Warthog, Ostrich, Cheetah, African Bush Elephant, Lion, Spotted Hyena, African Wild Dog.

FESTIVAL OF THE LION KING

FESTIVAL OF THE LION KING is a live stage musical performed at Disney's Animal Kingdom in Walt Disney World. The show, an original interpretation of the Disney animated film "The Lion King", uses songs, dance, puppetry and visual effects to portray a tribal celebration in an African savanna setting filled with lions, elephants, giraffes, birds, zebras and gazelles.

The Animal Kingdom version of the show is presented as a celebration with Simba and his friends - including a band of four human singers. The show is performed inside an enclosed theater-in-the-round. Guests sit in four sections, each designated with an animal name: Giraffe, Elephant, Warthog & Lion. These animals are represented by large puppets on four parade-style floats, which were originally built for Disneyland's "The Lion King Celebration" parade. The show is hosted by four performers dressed in costumes inspired by traditional African dress. Each has a Swahili name: Kiume (meaning "masculine and strong"), Nakawa ("good-looking"), Kibbi ("princess") and Zawadi ("the gift"). After the hosts welcome the audience to the show, the curtains open and a procession of dancers, puppeteers and stilt walkers enter the theater. Among them are LION KING characters Simba, Pumbaa and Timon. Acts include gymnastic "Tumble Monkeys", a fire knife-twirling hyena and an aerial dance featuring performers dressed as birds, leading to an interactive sing-along.

Due to the construction of "Pandora - The World of Avatar" replacing Camp Minnie-Mickey (which was the show's original location), the show went into a five-month hiatus while a new theater, the Harambe Theater, was constructed in an unused dense forest area in the Africa section of the park. Construction on the Harambe Theater was completed in May 2014 and the show reopened there on 01 June 2014. This relocation was part of a wider expansion of AFRICA, which included a new path, restrooms and new restaurants.

3. ASIA

ASIA, the first expansion area added to Disney World's Animal Kingdom, was first opened in 1999. The area is set in the fictional kingdom of Aanandapur (which means "Place of Many Delights"). Anandapur evokes the traits of Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Mongolia, Nepal and Thailand. According to Disney history, Anandapur was established as a royal hunting preserve in 1555. Anandapur contains both the Riverside Village of Anandapur and Serka Zong, which is set in the foothills of the Himalayas.

Portraits of Anandapur's royal family (consisting of the maharaja and his wife) can be found in most of the businesses within the two villages, a map of the kingdom featuring both villages and their location relative to the mountains and river. The visual focal point of asia is Expedition Everest: LEGEND OF THE FORBIDDEN MOUNTAIN, a steel roller-coaster ride through the Forbidden Mountain of the Himalayas where passengers encounter a Yeti. Nearby is Kali River Rapids, a river-rapids ride along the Chakranadi River through a rainforest, past illegal logging operation and down a waterfall. The Maharajah Juncle Trek leads guests through the forests and ruins outside the village, which are home to species such as bantengs, Sumatran Tiger, Blackbucks, Orangutans, Eld's Deer, Gibbons, Lare Flying Foxes, Komono Dragons and over 50 bird species

Nearby is Kali River Rapids, a river-rapids ride along the Chakranadi River through a rain forest, past an

No matter how hard you try, it's almost impossible to stay dry on this ride
Especially when some one in your family is standing at the top and pushing a button to cause the elephant to spray water on you
When there's heat-wave at Disney World, this is the "perfect" ride

This highly decorated bus reminded me of INDIA and so did the buildings and shops around it

DinoLand U.S.A.

DinoLand U.S.A. is themed around dinosaurs and other extinct prehistoric llife. The area is anchored by the Dino Institute, a fictitious Palaeontological facility which is home to Dinosaur, a dark-thrill-ride loosely inspired by the 2000 Disney animated film of the same name, featuring a harrowing trip through time to the Late Cretaceous Period

TREE PEOPLE

Have you noticed THE TREE PEOPLE at the entrance and exit of the Animal Kingdom Theme Park? You've been lucky if you have because they are very fascinating to watch. One of the characters is named Lady DiVine and she is very popular. Imagine walking around Animal Kingdom and suddenly, the vine you see wrapped around a tree you thought was part of the tree, suddenly begins to move! You may have just met the peaceful and graceful Lady DiVine.  Appearing since the early days of Animal Kingdom, Lady DiVine makes her home on the pathways between Aftica and Asiaa - and on occasion she is in the Oasis. You must look carefully, or you'll end up walking right past her. She loves to take photos with guests. Just stay calm and walk near her then turn around to pose
