The Lomax Family
Name Origin: England
Today's generations of the Lomax family bears a name that dates back to before the Norman Conquest of 1066 in England. The Lomax name is derived from a since lost place Bury in Lancashire, recorded in the Middle Ages as Lumhalghs. This place-name is in turn derived from the Old English words "lumm" which means "pool" and "halh" which means "nook or recess".
First found in Lancanshire where they were seated from very early times. It is thought that the ancestors of the bearers of Lomax pedated Duke William of Normandy and the Battle of Hastings in 1066 A.D.
The Lomax Family line connected to the Cranford Family line when Mary Martha Lomax married Manley Wilson Cranford, Sr. Their daughter Laura W. Cranford married William Alexander Loftin, connecting the Lomax & Cranford lines to the Loftin line.
