Page 2: The High School Years

Born: 1978, Catawba County, NC

In the Fall of 1992, Philip started Bandys High School as a Freshman.  He continued with band, but when the opportunity arose, he switched from flute to sousaphone/tuba.

Philip started Stage Band in the 10 grade at Bandys.  They were looking for a bass guitar player.  Philip didn't know how to play the bass, so he taught himself.  His band teacher, Sam Harbinson, said that Philip was one of the best bass players he had ever heard.

In the summer of 1993, Philip was selected to serve as a Governor's Page in Raleigh.  He stayed with his Grandmother Weeks for the week and enjoyed his service at the state's capital.

While Philip attended Bandys High School, he worked part-time at K-Mart in Conover.  Upon his graduation, he went to work at Southeastern Freight while taking classes at Catawba Valley Community College.  He was awarded a full scholarship to CVCC because of his grades from Bandys.  He graduated from CVCC with a degree in Computer Systems.  He worked at CVCC, but eventually left there to use his computer degree at People's Bank in Catawba County.
