In the Name of God, Amen. I john
Loftin of the Parish of Saint Andrews in the county of
Greensville, being sick in body but of perfect sense and
memory do make and declare This my Last will and
testament in manner, following |
|
First, I
bequeath my soul into the hands of Almighty God, hoping and
believing a remission of my sins by the merits and mediation of
Jesus Christ, and my body I commit to the earth to be buried at
the descretion, of my Executor herein after named, and my worthy
estate. I give and devise as follows my just debts and funeral
charges being first paid |

Imprimion,
first I lend my beloved wife Martha Loftin my three Negros,
Andrew, Kate and Lewecy/Lucy, during her natural life. |
|
Item: I give
and bequeath unto my son James Loftin my two Negros, Dilvy/Dileey
and Fanny with their increase from this day, with all other
things that I have given and possest him with to him and his
heirs for ever. |
|
Item: I
give and bequeath unto my son Edmund Loftin my Negro girl Pegg
and her child, Jenny, with their future increase, one bed and
furniture, one blaze-faice mare, also fifty pound cash to him
and his heirs for ever. |
|
Item: I give
and bequeath unto my son Eldridge Loftin my Negro boy, Doctor,
to him and his heirs forever. |
|
Item: I give
and bequeath unto my son Augustine Loftin my Negro boy, Scott,
to his and his heirs for ever. |
|
Item: I give
and bequeath unto my son Hearbert Chamberlain Loftin my Negro
boy Ephram to him and his heirs for ever. |
|
Item: I
give and bequeath unto my daughter Martha Loftin my Negro girl
Rose with her future increase, one bed and furniture, one horse
named Dobings, one sadle and bridle, and ten pounds worth of
household furniture, to her and her heirs for ever. |
|
Item: I
give and bequeath unto my daughter Frances Loftin my Negro girl
Charlot with her future increase, one bed and furniture, one mare
named Venton, one sadle and bridle, and ten pounds worth of
household furniture, also after the death of my wife, my Negro
woman Lewecy/Lucy to her and her heirs for ever. |

My will and
desire is that my loving wife Martha Loftin shall have the use
of my land and plantation with the Resudue of my estate of what
kind or quality so ever not before mentioned or given away
during her widowhood, to bring up and educate my children on,
also the use of the Legases/Legacies bequeath my sons John,
Eldridge, Augustine, and Hearbert Chamberlain Loftin, and also
the use of the Legases bequeath my Daughters Martha and Frances
Loftin until they shall arrive to the Eagi/Age of twenty one
years or marry or during the widowhood of my said wife. |

Item: I
give and bequeath unto my daughter, Elizabeth Harwell, my Negro
girl Silva, with her increase from this date, after the death or
marriage of my wife to her and her heirs for ever. |
|
My will and
desire is that my land containing four hundred and one acres
more or less whearon/where-on I now live be equally devided
amongst my four sons, John, Eldridge, Augustine, and Hearbert
Chamberlaine Loftin at the death or marriage of my wife to them
and their heirs for ever. |
|
Item: I
give and bequeath my two Negros, Andrew and Kate, after the
death of my wife unto my four children namely James, Edmund,
John and Martha Loftin, to be equally devided amongst them to
them and their heirs forever. |
|
Item: My
will and desire is that my Negro man Bob with the Resudue of my
estate of what kind or quallitys ever not before mention or
given away be equally devided at the death or marrage of my said
wife amongst my three sons names Eldridge, Augustine, and
Hearbert Chamberlain Loftin to them and their heirs forever. |
|
Lastly my
will and desire is that there be no appraisment of my estate and
I do nominate, constitute and appoint my loving wife Martha
Loftin, Joel Wilkerson and my son Edmond Loftin Executres and
Executors of this my last will and testament as witness my hand
and seal this third day of August anno Domini one thousand seven
hundred ninety three. |
