The Johnson Family   Name Origin: England The name Johnson was brought to England in the great wave of migration following Norman Conquest of 1066.  The name literaly means "Son of John", a given name which is derived from the Hebrew name "Johanan", meaning "Jehovah has favored".  The name was extremely popular in the Middle Ages as a result of the numberous connections between the name John and the Christian Church. Spelling variations of this family name include Johnson, Joneson, Jonson, Yoynson and others.
