Hart's Square

It began in August of 1967 when Dr. Robert Hart purchased a small tract of land with the purpose of establishing a wildlife refuge and a retreat from his busy family practice.

Hart Square is a private collection of over 73 original and local log structures located in Catawba County, NC. Buildings include a working grist mill, a groundhog kiln for firing pottery, printing shop with period-appropriate printing press, cotton gin, covered bridge, firehouse, and many, many more. Costumed interpreters demonstrate life in an 1840's Carolina village.

Hart's Square is open to the public on the fourth Saturday of October each year.  Craftsmen and artisans demonstrate the way of life in the 1840's.  Tickets are $25 per person and are available through the Catawba County History Museum, starting the beginning of October. Proceeds are donated to the Hart's Square Foundation and the Catawba County Historical Association.
